Going to get out my jump to conclusions mat after only watching the third and only seeing a handful of full games this season.
The days of this team being a hybrid skill/grinding team are over. At least for the time being. Jim "quality over quantity" Montgomery could not adjust to this fact and kept coaching as if he had a skilled team in front of him, ignoring what is ultimately a very weak forward roster.
This team needs to shoot, shoot, and shoot some more. And then play really structured defense. That's their simple winning recipe for the rest of the season if they want any chance of success, whatever that means. They've got the defensive core to do it. They should have the goaltending to do it. And they've got the grinders on offense to do it. It's going to come down to if the "skill" players buy into the system. No more stupid shit from Pasta, Marchand, Coyle, Zacha etc. Just grind your way to wins through simple, smart hockey.
