I agree...for the most part we played pretty damn good

my biggest concern is Jones, either still hurt or lacks motivation, I thought he was a step slow all night

Henakin is doing ok in limited minutes, but this team misses Matt Calvert

Jones hasn't quite been himself since coming back. Hopefully its just rust and not a lingering health issue.

I think Jones is lacking some confidence now, give him a couple more games in high pressure situations, he should improve.

I only saw the third, so I'll only speak for that, and they really peppered the net. Luongo is just ridiculous sometimes, and makes it look easy.

:shakehead

Would you prefer we be in last place and take 2 points in 7 games? Seriously, I just don't get some people.

I don't think anyone besides MFRONE is upset with our points out of the recent games, and MFRONE being negative is like ice being cold.

So really, it is a positive consensus!

If you want to include the Ranger game, it was 8 points in 7 games over 9 days. It looks nice, but some of those wins over big names squads don't mean much when you get embarrassed at home by Calgary and have to count on a miracle to just get a point over Colorado.

My biggest gripe for those who are happy with the results, is that the Jackets didn't gain any ground in the standings and blew chances to move up.

Col and CGY weren't great games. Think they had a mental let down after NYR and WSH games. Thought TB was best effort I've seen out of CBJ. Really impressed to look at league standings and see CBJ in top 8 teams. All in all happy to be here after the dire projections many had for us for the first 16 games.

I don't think he's hurt - at least he was absolutely flying his first game back. And Jones can absolutely fly in practice for hours.

I edited my post because I think this is a more accurate explanation. Jones beats himself up a lot. Murray too. As much as we like to pretend they are supposed to be above it as professionals, they're just like anyone else who can get down on themselves. And I think that really slows guys down, unfortunately.

I wonder if Jones came back too quickly from the broken foot injury. He does not have that smooth effortless stride that he has had in the past when he skates. When he went out they said the earliest he would be back was this coming week. So he came back a week early.

I did not think there was a snowball's chance in hell that we would win the shoot out. So we settle for 3 out of 4 points.

How was he so quick his first game then? Maybe a re-injury?

I honestly didn't see him much tonight, only saw the third.

You frequently expect bad things to happen that don't end up happening.

All I said was "Just feels like we don't have a goal in us tonight." Which is just an opinion. Pessimism would be "Oh my god we suck, we never win, we will always suck." Or things of the sort. It was an opinion.

I think we DID deserve a point. At least our goal wasn't a big ol' softie. Bob played well but Luongo played better.

On another matter, just because someone is not optimistic doesn't mean they are pessimistic. Maybe they are just realistic or a little gun shy. Who could blame any of us, given the past 16 years?!? I'll continue being optimistic. I like this team and this coaching staff.

Cams shot looked uninspired to some but I thought he did what 1 of the other 2 should have also done. Luongo has always had issues 5 hole especially in shootouts. He might have greatly improved over the last few years he has been in FLA but I lived part time in Vancouver for 5 ish years and he was always bad as shootouts and letting players go 5 hole. I thought that was a good idea to not only shoot quick and a little earlier then expected but he just barely got the gates closed before it snuck in. The other 2 were just over handled. Wennberg has played great but not my first choice in a shootout. I'd put in Saad foligno or even Hartnell before him.

Definitely nothing wrong with being pessimistic. I was just pointing out that it wasn't accurate.
But then again nothing wrong with being wrong either!

A pessimistic opinion.

re: the game itself

I'm fine with 3/4 points on the back end of a 5 in 7 on the road. Not sure under what circumstances I wouldn't be fine with that.

Jones has looked off since he came back. I disagree that he looked great in his first game back. He may be skating well but his timing is off and much of the problem with the games against COL and CGY were that the passing out of the D-zone went to hell. He was a contributing factor on several poor plays coming out of every zone in both games. he'll be fine, of course, but I hope he's back to normal sooner than later.

My biggest gripe for those who are happy with the results, is that the Jackets didn't gain any ground in the standings and blew chances to move up.

Are they handing out some type of Cup in a few days or something? Last I checked, I think 3/4 of the season remains and the first 1/4 went pretty well. This is likely the best CBJ team we've ever seen (I know, not saying much). It might be time to just enjoy the ride a little.

Here is the thing that I noticed in watching the Bolts and Panthers games; the Blue Jackets looked very tight defensively. They seemed to be holding down the shots against. Not sure about scoring chances, but they have to be down also. I have heard Coach Tortorella says his goal is to allow no more than 14 scoring chances a game. This franchise has historically allowed double digit shot attempts per period for years and years. Anything less than 10 is good. Anything near 5 is outstanding.

Here are the shots on goal allowed for the past two games;
Team|Per1|Per2|Per3|OT|Total
Tampa|4|9|15|NA|28
Florida|6|8|6|3|23
I think you have to adjust the 3rd period Tampa results to account for the last 5 minutes when Bishop was pulled. I thought they started that sequence with like 17-19 shots total and Tampa had 10 shots in 5 minutes. If that is the case, they gave up 19 shots in 55 minutes.

This is a glimpse of defensive improvement I still expect this team to regularly take when we get to January or February. I just think everyone will get more comfortable with each other and their roles. The only thing I worry about is Werenski wearing down or injuries to the D-corps.

3 out of 4 point against 2 very good teams on the road is just fine by me.

Have read a few national articles giving the CBJ love for their start, but in every case they expect at some point this team will become the same old Jackets.

I know deep down inside we all fear that as well, but damn, I hope this team proves all of them wrong.

Watch Nick's spin and tell me it ain't the most impressive one you've ever seen.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITMJd_uU4ro

This old vid has dozens and dozens of spin-o-ramas. I'm still looking for one where a guy picks up speed through the move like that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dD4IVVS-kI

Am I the only one who's jaw drops watching that? I'm surprised no one has anything to say about it. Have folks here not spent a quarter of their childhood trying to master moves like the spin-o-rama? Only to find that it just leaves you flat footed (a barrier Nick has somehow broken through)?

I'm going to need to re-watch that spin-o-rama a few more times to figure out how the hell he did it. :amazed:
I don't know if I've seen one like that before. It might just have been an exceptionally tight pivot to the spin.

I don't know how you Frenchies feels but pirouettes have no place in ice hockey. Fog might try his hand at figure skating as his captaining days might be soon over if those continue.
