No team will ever win any championship not having a draft pick until the 4th round and then only a couple after. It's like rushing to a garage sale at noon that started at 7am. The good stuff is already sold. Sweeny is a legend in his own mind.

Myself and others have looked at the past Cup champs. All the winners have had at least a top 5 pick on the team. Of course, alot of teams with top 5 pick lose, but no teams without a top 5 pick have won. recently. I think going back to 2011.
They aren't going to win again, until they tank for a few years. That won't happen. Unfortunately.

Well what do we expect after the following signings:

A unproven goalie signed for 8.25 mil per
A 3rd pairing defenseman for 5 mil per
A center who did not look great last season and only had a couple of real promising years for 7.75 mil per

Should of been Swayman on bridge contract at 5 mil per (or goodbye)
Zadorov should not be making more than 3 mil per
Elas Lindholm I would of preferred if they did not sign him

That is 21 mil per we are paying for these 3 and getting very little value for the buck

Id settle for even subpar hockey at this point. This team is beyond salvaging, it’s flawed in every measurable metric , from the FO down .

Just two seasons ago the Bruins had the best record and it was the most fun I've had watching hockey (until the playoffs but I'm not going there)

Just two seasons ago. That makes this season even harder to watch.

Is it as simple as them failing to draft and develop and keep positions?

We have beaten the 2015 draft to death.
They also traded picks away, and put themselves into a salary, cap penalty in an effort to go all in.

They do delve to free agency, and sign Lindholm and Zadorov.

Chara and Savard, they are not.

Couple that with the fact that they DeBrusk walk and Marchand looks along in the tooth, and all of a sudden the top 6 forward group is pretty barren.

They don’t have the horses to run and gun, and they don’t have the shutdown guys to win games 2 to 1.

So what does success look like for this Boston Bruins team as presently constructed?

No sacred cows, so I think it’s also fair to question your three franchise pillars in Pastrnak, McAvoy, and Swayman.

Did you identify an invest in the right people?
They just have never seemed to value the "one dimensional" scorer as much as a 200 foot guy. Pasta dropped like a rock and you would think they would have learned. Went with the "more rounded" players Jake and Senny over Barzal and Connor. Passed on Robert Thomas and Josh Norris for yet another LHD with minimal O skills.

They traded 2 firsts for rentals and let them walk., Numerous other picks to cover up mistake signings they had to dump. That catches up. Look at the albatros roster that is Providence. No help there for a long time.

At one point they had Bertuzzi, Jake, Marchand, Pasta, Krejci and Bergeron top 6. That was only 2 years ago. Taylor Hall was a contributor and he was dumped. They never replace these people. The few times they draft skill players high like Lysell they get butt hurt because "he doesn't play the Bruins way".

Next step is to fire the coach and see if they can turn it on. Not sure what coach in the NHL can survive with Geekie on line 1 and Brazeau on line 2 but we will see.

Bruins gotta look to future. Trade pasta macavoy marchy for picks. They are not winning shit soon.
In Sweeney's defense the mandate is 41 sell outs. That's it.

Is there any question after tonight that the Bruins are the worst team in the NHL at defending the rush?

You’re probably right and they still are terrible at defending an aggressive forcheck also which really makes them an easy team to play against, and beat quite easily.

They just have never seemed to value the "one dimensional" scorer as much as a 200 foot guy.

If you could sum up the flaws in Sweeney's approach his entire decade at the helm, it's this statement.

If a player doesn't fit their bizarre mold of "Bruin-type" they have no interest in that player really.

They have always placed way to much value in height and weight, guys who skate well for their size (not to be confused with great skaters), grit, physical play, etc. And ignore the fact that most of these players are unintelligent hockey players. There are times I watch Trent Frederic go about his business and wonder if he's hasn't got the lowest IQ (real IQ, not hockey IQ) in the entire league. Just an idiot.

The list is long. Senyshyn, Zboril and Debrusk. All 3 had great natural athletic ability, none think the game well. You could add Brandon Carlo to that mix as well. Beautiful skater for a 6'5 player, decision making, not so great. The aformention Frederic. John Beecher also skates strong for a larger player, but doesn't have the hockey sense to make much of it.

Look at this past summer. Zadorov, Jones, Tufte, Kastelic all fit this flawed mold. Nikita Zadorov has the physical gifts to be THE premier shut-down defender in the NHL. But he doesn't think the game well at all and that is what has kept him as a 3rd pairing guy his entire career.

Ironically the 4 best draft picks of the past 20 years have been four guys who never blew anyone away with their physical gifts, but all 4 just know how to play the game. (Bergeron, Krejci, Marchand, and Pastrnak).

Gotta decide who they wanna be soon. It’s win or draft. Dicking around in this .500ish mediocrity will eventually destroy us all

Elias Lindholm was a top 5 pick.

Hampus wat a 6th overall pick.

I signed up thru my cable company. I'm paying around 90 bucks for the season.
I’m kind of pissed with the Center ice package,I think all but maybe 3 or 4 games have been on SportsNet
I’m paying for ESPN+ just so I can watch Bruins games, how does one get the center ice package?
Through your cable company,I have been pissed with Center Ice ,because most of the Bruins games for me have been on SportsNet which I also have ,so no televised by Center Ice.And the few games I have had on Center Ice hasn’t been the NESM feed.

As a fan, honestly, what is there to like with this team?

1. Management
2. Coaching
3. Leadership
4. Forward Top Six
5. Forward Bottom Six
6. Defense
7. Goaltending
8. Effort
9. Entertainment Value
10. Future
11. Prospects
12. Powerplay
13. Penalty Kill

I have nothing. Zero. Even the bottom six forwards have dried up.
I do like the uniforms.

And, you didn't ask, but I like $100,000 bars. The chocolate and caramel are good -- but it's the crispy rice type stuff I like the best. That has nothing to do with this team, I know. I just thought I'd share.

What really gets me about this team is their lack of pride.

They have been getting booed off the ice in their own building for a while now. Yet they seem to just let it roll off their collective back and come out again and again with unimpassioned play.

The Big Smoke (unfortunately)
He’s playing with Geekie & Zacha who have 11 points between them

Pasta hasn’t played good this year at all, but that contract is the least of my concerns
Yup, a #1 scoring winger needs a #1 centre. The centre needs to have the puck to feed Pasta. Pasta has the puck too often all by himself. That's why he looks like crap all the time.

I like Andy Brickley.

As the team spirals farther down, his sarcastic side comments often amuse me.
