Did giving Marchy the C take more away from his natural game then it would have improved someone like Mac's game? Not that he seems to be the leader we need now but just wondering what others think.

I've often wondered that too. Sure he has matured, but think of some of the stuff he's pulled in his career, and there's no way he would have been considered "C" material. Does he change his game as a result? Maybe. At this point sure looks like team leadership isn't a strong point.

I'm not trying to talk bad about him as a player or leader in any sense. Just saying that his style and brand wasn't what you think of when you think of NHL Captain. When he got that title did it hurt his game more then giving the C to someone like your young number 1 dman who could have elevated his game and taken that next step if put into that role? Mac also notoriously needs to be pushed hard to get the best results, maybe the demands of the C could have helped. It's all moot now anyway, I don't think either player are the problem in reality.

Same here watching 56 years and I said the very same thing. I have never seen a team deflate like this.
