Pre-Game Talk: Game 2 - Panthers @ Toronto

Leafs will have to play the tight game they played in the first period last night, if Woll is going to be between the pipes. Give Florida little and keep them constantly smothered.

I'm really hoping for Woll to have a good game, I always hoped for him to become a franchise goalie, but in reality when he stepped in, during the last playoffs, he was replacing Samsonov who had been consistently horrible, it's kind of hard to follow up on Stolarz's play this season, he's been one of the best goalies in the league.
With that said, let's get another W before going to Florida! :towel:

This is where you hope a veteran coach like Craig Berube can steady or inspire the room. If the Leafs come out flat (or worse, skittish) after how the last game ended, I think people are going to be very disappointed even if they head back to Florida with the split.

Make this a hockey game, don't get drawn into the theatrics, and try to capitalize on special teams.
I don't think we need to be too concerned with how the game ended. Florida had their foot on the gas and scored two early in the third, but with 8ish to go (or whenever) that Nylander shift completely broke the momentum our way and then Knies scored two minutes later. Their fourth was an absolutely insane fluke and while they pressed pretty hard, we defended very well. If Matthews could hit the broad side of a barn door right now, it would have been done and dusted with little fanfare.

The motto should be "bend but don't break". Berube's timeout was excellent, because we stemmed the bleeding from there and fought hard to close out the game.

I think(would hope) that Florida taking out their #1 goalie and the league doing absolutely nothing about it that they would come shot out of a cannon tomorrow night. Stoke that us against the world mentality.

Yeah I would agree. I think we learn a lot about the character of this club and its leadership in Game 2. It's a statement game.

I think the number one concern is now...how do you keep Woll healthy for the remainder of the series?

You can't really do anything about it. It's a physical sport and a lot can happen. He's been healthy all season. If he gets injured then you deal with it and play even better infront.

I wonder why Hildeby is the #3 goalie. Is Murray totally cooked? Or is he injured again? You’d think they would have him ahead of Hildeby in case something happens to Woll just because of the experience factor.
I'm assuming they weren't expecting their #3 goalie to get any ice time, so it mattered less who was dressed for it.

Going into tomorrow night, I'd probably want Murray as my backup if I'm being honest. The guy is a two-time Cup winner and had really good numbers in the AHL this season. Sure, he's brittle, but if worst ever came to worst, I'd rather go with the guy who played 51 games in the playoffs and lifted the Cup twice (even if it was a decade ago) than go with someone who has 6 career NHL regular season games....

Put in Reeves injure Bob even we take a 5 min penalty it's worth it. Show them we aren't going to let them injure our guys without repercussions.
This is vengeance, and it will distract from the team's goal. Just protect your net (better box-outs) and make sure you go to the net hard yourself. You can't bubble wrap players, so just go out and win. No better way to hurt them than sending them packing with a bruised ego.

Nobody complains anymore from the public. It doesnt matter if politicians lie, cheat, steal, companies have monopolies, banks print money and devalue your worth.

Canada is literally the zombie nation. No spirit. No common sense except in pockets.

George Parros, who is the Senior Vice President of Player Safety. The NHL's main office is located at 50 Bay St, Toronto, ON M5J 2X8, Canada. The Toronto office phone number is 416-359-7900

Go for it

Frankly, Parros or others are not going to give a shit what I’m going to say, but I think chants like above in mass during a game, even if it doesn’t get to Bennet, there’s bound to be some players or folks with the Panthers organization that will not like hearing those chants. I’m merely suggesting we go hard during game 2 with those chants.

I agree. NHL.com comments. NHL YouTube video comments. Call it out everywhere and they will care.

Reputations are hard to repair

Panthers seem like a joke - like I thought they were this physically intimidating team, but the Leafs rolled them over last night....? I get the Panthers out hit them (not exactly surprising, they are a heavy forechecking team) but like every massive hit last night it seemed like it was the Panthers player eating it (outside of Holmberg getting bodied taking the puck to the net, and the rat Bennett punching Stolarz in the back of the head).

Seems like their mostly made up of rats - and not this physically demanding team like a lot of people thought they are?

Anyway, really hoping to watch Sam Bennett get his absolute shit rocked. Dude is so dirty but never has to answer for it. Really hope IF there is a blowout game where the Leafs are on the losing end, somebody just grabs him and feeds him fist-sandwiches. If the league isn't going to police, the players will need.

OR even better. Keep f***ing winning, and put these p***yes out. Then maybe Bennett can eat his fist sandwiches next preseason. Should still be tasty by then.

Just focus on the game, run the same lineup and keep playing our game. Florida guys look like they're running out of gas. 2 Cup runs and a physical series vs Tampa, leading up to this point.

No need to headhunt Bennett whether or not some people think he deserves it. Just play our game and win.

100% expecting a fight though, Domi vs Bennett makes the most sense. There has to be some sort of response, just don't let it dictate the entire game.
