Do note Aho says "I", as in personal pre scouting of his own. I wishfully assume he means on top of what the team provides.
Aho also scored that game, so...Imma give him a pass on that one lol.

If you were going to target upper right as Sorokin's weakness, would you signal the goalie in advance? In today's video world coupled with the Canes superb use of advanced analytics, I find it hard to believe that Aho's comment is accurate.

I also suspect the wording may have been a bit imprecise.

I remember barely stopping myself from veering off the road in my car after having a first sip of Sweet tea from Bojangles LOL. You'd be surprised what that stuff can do to an out-towners' body ahahaha.

(By the time I left, I of course enjoyed sweet tea, Bojangles, and all the other Carolina delights, but it took some adjustment).
This might be sacrilege but I prefer McDonald’s sweet tea the 3x a year I “splurge” for a sugary drink.

At the same time, though, I think fans make too many parallels between hockey and other sports. The idea of a chess match between the teams just doesn't translate to hockey, outside of really narrow nuances like line-matching.

From time to time we hear players talking about pre-scouting goalies for the shootout and vice versa, which makes sense given the amount of time and space they have to set up the shot. In a live game context, not so much. Aho's goal the other night, you don't want him thinking "I should shoot this at X location because Sorokin is weaker there than in Y location". You just want him thinking, "one-timer, hit the big open space before he gets to it".

Please. I know a Cajun filet biscuit is sinfully delicious, but it ain't breakin' no commandments.

“Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”
I've done that after eating a biscuit.

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.”
I've had a biscuit on Saturday/Sunday.

“Honour thy father and thy mother.”
My mother's biscuits were never this good.

Yep, this. Sometimes we give these guys too much credit. They aren’t Supermen. Tweaks to a system in response to an opponent’s are one thing. Knowing a glaring weakness in a goalie’s game, like leaving the short side too early or being awful 5-hole, is one thing. But live incorporating a detailed prescout of a goalie’s minor tendencies into your thought process as you’ve got .2 seconds to get a puck on net is just not happening. Hitting your spot is hard enough as it is without having to try to remember which spot is slightly best.

(Said another way - Jordan Staal doesn’t hit the crest as often as he does because of a lack of prescout telling him the opposing goalie is very strong in the exact center of his body and he shouldn’t shoot there.)

There are many "tasty delights" to be found in the Carolinas not to be confused with afternoon delight.

The ol' Lipton + 300g of sugar gets em every time.

Anyone who's played a lot of sports knows that you can't play at your highest level if you're consciously thinking. Actions need to be ingrained and instinctive at the point of actually making the play. Which is not to detract from the preparation and experience that contributes to getting to the point of "instinctively" making the right play. One of the Canes (maybe Turbo?) recently said as much when a reporter asked him what he was thinking on a goal. I've always thought that was a pretty stupid (ignorant?) question.

I wish they asked Jarvis. He'd prolly say "Staal told us to shoot at the logo."

That one got me good.

That sounds too similar to Ultra Instinct for me to not make the reference.

Anyway, I see where you're coming from. Hockey is also such a fast sport as is. You don't have much time to think consciously. I also feel like overthinking is a determent in a lot of sports.
