GDT: Game 2 : Czech Republic Vs Russia | 9AM EST 3PM CET | CZE 4 - 3 RUS

Mysak missed some golden opportunites on that 5 on 3
Kubicek looked a bit rough as well
Russians with some REALLY great shot blocks and faceoff wins.
Askarov with some excellent saves as well.
Raise your hand if you thought the 2nd would end with:

1. Czech lead
2. Russians having to block shots and barely hanging on for final minute
 
Damn feel like Czechs needed to make it 5-3 there.

Russia has tons of zone control at 5v5, they will definitely get their chances to tie this one

PM me if you want a nice Swiss-Kazakhstan stream to keep you occupied for the 2nd intermission (3-3 tie right now)
 
The Czechs have no business leading this game, Russia is on a different level 5v5. Thanks to bad discipline and favorable refereeing for the home team the Czechs are in front

If Mysak got that pass from Jenik one more time that's in the back of the net.

But yeah. Up the physicality some more and we can take this.

You're 100% right about 5 on 5 play. Russian Special teams are also better. However, the reffing has been awful for the Czechs too.lol

image if Czech win this.. group a winner could possible get Russia n quarterfinals.. its a perfect exit for Sweden considering there luck in medal round lol.

A 5-3 lead would be great BUT I honestly thought it'd be 4-2 Russia by now. Went 9 minutes without a shot on net in that period and have a lead. We've been tripled in shots and have a lead. Hockey is not always fair and this is a great example.lol
 
Literally, all Russia had to do was keep playing like they were. Not sure why they went all crazy and started taking penalties. Czechs turned it into a slow, chippy game and the Russian's should've just kept plowing along and opened it back up. I didn't like Varada as coach last year but that was a masterul period by him... somehow got 2 goals and a lead out of it.

You must be pumped bro. Didn’t see a Czech lead coming after the 2nd before this game started.

Atmosphere looks good at the arena. I always like when the Czechs host, I thought the 2015 WHC was a fantastic atmosphere.

If you told me we'd have a lead going into the third I'd say you're crazy.. especially after watching first 30 minutes.

Dostal has been excellent. Now we have a legit puncher's chance as we do have a counter attack and a very good goalie.

I still think Russia wins this but there is some hope!

Czechs need to stay out of box and stick to the ugly game with the occasional counter attack. Push hard for a 5th goal and see if they can get Russia to take another bad penalty in a goalie scrum.. they seem to be under their skin a bit.

Oh yeah, no argument there. Russia is more skilled and faster. We've been quite lucky, but have capitalised on our chances better. I think if we play more physical and keep it up we should get at least one point.

The key for us would be even 1 point.. Germany on Saturday and that is our medal game. Having a point going into that would help a lot.

That QF in 2015 vs Finland was the best game I've seen live. Great memory :nod:

That whole 'hopping crowd' thing is amazing.

Definitely pumped.. more in shock.lol This third period is going to be really interesting. I'm assuming Russia comes out flying and I'll have bitten my nails off.lol

Canada sent a powerhouse team that year and the Czech crowd was behind us when we smoked the Russians for gold.

Seems like Czech fans get behind Canadian teams whenever we’re not playing the Czechs when it’s in the Czech Republic.

Best of luck in the 3rd. Been a good game to kick off our Christmas tradition in the hockey world.
