It's more of a macro-observation than a one-game observation, but reallllly need Drew to pick up his game. Even with reduced minutes, he's making lazy plays along the boards and honestly I think Forbort has been better than him this last stretch.

He's on pace for 30 points, has had his worst possession numbers in years, and is getting scored on lots in comparison to previous years. He's been awful on the PP which has also affected the team, and mediocre-to-bad on the PK. But my bigger problem is just the soft turnovers--not big dramatic up the middle ones, just soft flops along the boards.

I'm glad he's a number one d-man eating minutes, and he's too good to not pick it up, but this is the worst start he's had since the beginning of 2012 when I started to wonder if he was even an elite d-man.

this team amazes me at times . gaborik quick kopitar mcnabb and andreoff out now Drew and jake just playing ok zatkoff in and out and back again and purcell and king frustrating the bejesus out of me and yet we are 500 hockey Who needs trade we just need health and soon will have some back

Purcell was horrible this game. A number of turnovers, and otherwise looked invisible. Settoguichi has been head and shoulders a better pick up in the offseason than this guy.

Yeah, Doughty has been less than impressive. It's those smaller turnovers, because he's also getting hit with the puck more than he has before. He usually does the little spin thing, gets rid of the puck, then gets hit. Not as smooth this year.

All 5 of the guys that ended up in the World Cup have been off. Some off the ice completely.

Pleasantly surprised with this win, was not expecting it. Can't praise Dowd and Forbort enough, they've been exceptional, along with the 70's boys.

Wonder if it's because of the "A" on his jersey now. Trying to do too much instead of just playing his game.

We won a day game, against NJ and put up 3 against Mr.All World, Best Goalie in the World , should've won the Vezna because sv pct and gaa are more important than wins? We even scored an EN goal. What team is this that I saw today?:laugh:

Norris, World Cup hangover. It Kind of seems like it's league wide.

For this game, corsi for percentages:

Toffoli: CF% = 78.95 :amazed:

Purcell: CF% = 29.41 :laugh::cry:

Our 4th line was terrible

Looking at skater stats, a few things about our D....

Martinez is really driving possession this year, and scoring to boot. He's looking really good out there.

Doughty is off his "normal" advanced stats, which we can all see in his play

Forbort has the worst possession numbers on the team, but has been better of late.

Gravel is struggling with possession in general, and was poor tonight. Although he and Greene suffer from small sample size.

Overall only 2 forwards have sub-50 CF% this year, Nolan and Purcell. Nolan is at least near 50. Purcell should never see the ice once someone, anyone, comes back. He's looked terrible, and his stats are terrible in every facet.

what's CF vs CA & SCF & SCA?

i know it's for vs against

but for and against what? :p

Good question.

CF = Corsi For = even strength shot attempts (shots on goal, shots that missed the net or hit the post, and blocked shots) made by your team while you are on the ice

CA = Corsi Against = even strength shot attempts (shots on goal, shots that missed the net or hit the post, and blocked shots) made by the opposing team while you are on the ice

So when Tyler Toffoli was on the ice, 15 of the 19 shot attempts made were made by the Kings, or 78.95%. That '70s Line had CF% in the '70s. (Carter 72.73%, Pearson 75%) So when Pearson, Carter, and Toffoli were on the ice, they were the ones doing the shooting most of the time while the Devils were the ones defending.

SCF = Scoring Chance For

SCA = Scoring Chance Against

If you look at Sheng's tweet, you can see that the lowest scoring chance for % for the Pearson-Carter-Toffoli line members was 81.82%. Tyler Toffoli had the highest SCF% at 100%. When Toffoli was on the ice, 8 scoring chances were had by the Kings and zero by the Devils.

Speaking of Sheng,

wow we win 6 post we lose 6 pages lol

If it bleeds, it leads.

Wonder if it's because of the "A" on his jersey now. Trying to do too much instead of just playing his game.

So the C drags Brown down, it's dragging Kopitar down, and even an A is dragging Doughty down? Where are Mitchell, Williams, Richards, Stoll, Scuderi, Regehr, and Penner when you need them?

Norris, World Cup hangover. It Kind of seems like it's league wide.

Sort of a mixed bag on that for most if not every other team. For the Kings, everyone that played in the World Cup is either hurt or struggling to some degree.

Purcell should never see the ice once someone, anyone, comes back. He's looked terrible, and his stats are terrible in every facet.

Maybe he's still hurt, but yeah, has he had one good shift this year? You know he's not going to dig pucks out of anywhere, but at least bring some skill. He's not even doing that. He's not playing on a line that would really allow that, but individually he's not doing anything. Does he know he's a UFA after this season?

I'm hoping Sutter doesn't make Kopi's like the number one anymore. That line is a mess and it has been. If not for iPearson's injury and Toff's mono, we might have seen this already.

Thanks to Brown's contract, it comes down to either him, King, Setoguchi, or Purcell playing with Kopitar and Gaborik whenever they get back, should the 70's be kept together. We're all scared to see the current Dowd line split up. It's going good, seems fragile with the last few years of Brown and Setoguchi being a camp invite, so don't want to mess it up.

Brown is being paid like a 1st line winger, and that is where he should be when Kopitar and Gaboirk are back. If he was producing like a 1st liner, there's no reason to get Lucic, and they still have the 1st rounder, but whatever.

However the lines end up when healthy, I'm sure people will be upset for one reason or another. Either the Dowd line gets split, King is in the top 6, or none of the guys from Ontario are on the team because there are 15 forwards on the Kings already.

He has to lead the league in missed shot attempts (shots blocked or high and wide).

Yeah, Forbort is going to make Dean's job very difficult when it comes time to decide which defensemen to protect against the expansion draft...... Forbort or Martinez? ....

PS: Don't look now, but I think McNabb may have lost his job to Forbort! :amazed:

Both Kopitar & Gaborik will be back in the line-up in the next 7-10 days. That's how long Purcell has to show management that he was worth signing. Otherwise, I see waivers in his future. Oh well.....

Drew is the guy who tries to kill every pitch in teammate-pitched softball.

The guy has a million people in the NHL to learn from when it comes to just getting shots through, but instead he tries to murder every puck. The guy could be easily top-5 in d-scoring yearly with his shot attempts if he could just get them through and on net.

I doubt he did given Sutter's comments about having him in the lineup.

I doubt Gaborik will be given he was talking about how he needs to work on his conditioning as well.

No one wants injuries, but the silver lining is that Forbort and Dowd are getting a heavier workload/pressure situations and Gravel is getting more NHL experience early on in the season. That should come in handy at playoff time when they won't be as green as they otherwise would be.

McNabb was our best possession defensman, before going down, and it wasn't close. His corsi relative was a whopping 6.2, way ahead of everyone else on the team. Forbort's is a team worst -7.92. It's worse when you factor it over 60 minutes. Insert small sample size disclaimer here.

Right now I don't think there is any chance that McNabb loses his spot to Forbort. We all know he's streaky, but if he kept up anywhere near those numbers he would have been the easy pick in the expansion draft. It's ironic, but his injury might be a blessing in disguise, because it might keep him on the roster.
