Armstrong needs to suck it up and realize this Buch Center experiment is a terrible failure. His offense is completely non-existent and his defensive play is horrendous.

I didn't realize Armstrong was in charge of making the lineup. Are you suggesting he trade for a center?

Army doesn't construct the lines. This is a coaching staff decision, and it falls on Bannister and company. What Army does need to realize is that Bannister's current incentive is to make this team competitive enough so that he can find another NHL coaching position when his contract runs out in 2 seasons. With these current injuries and where this team is in the standings, Bannister's priorities clearly dont align with developing players like Bolduc. That's where Army should either send Bolduc down or think about a trade.

Who's actually in charge of calling up/sending down players? I feel like it would be more of a joint decision between coach and GM, but that's something that's not often talked about. I can't imagine a GM would make that decision without the input of coaches while the coaches don't have the ability to call up/send down players on their own.

Not sure I agree with your assertion that Bannister and Armstrong's goals are any different. Both want to win as many games as possible and if either thought Bolduc improved our chances of winning then he'd be in the lineup. I just don't know what realistic trade we could make right now that would really move the needle that much. Once Thomas is back, we don't really need another center that badly in the short term.

Army has already vocalized that he doesn't expect this team to do much this season. He is also stepping down as a GM very soon. He is more invested in the development of the players. On the flip side, this is Bannister's chance to make a name for himself at this level. Bannister is less interested in developing players and allowing them to learn from their mistakes because he wants a new contract in 2 seasons. My suggestion for trading Bolduc was for David Jiricek in a package rather than something that gives any false hope of making this team a contender this season.

I doubt Army prioritizes developing young players over winning and can't imagine Bannister is thinking ahead to his next contract in two years. Sure Army has to balance the long and short term interests but I think you're overthinking this. I doubt Bolduc gets us close to Jiricek. Maybe if we add Dvorsky or Snuggerud they'd consider it.

Hofer has been very mediocre since his hot start to the season. Ugly rebound on that second goal.

How on Earth does Bannister not think about his next contract? He's a provider of a family, and his current contract lacks long-term financial security. He's not like Ken Hichcock, Darryl Suter, or Jim Montgomery who have extensive resumes at the NHL level and can be recycled by a new team. He's in a completely different position than those guys.

Probably a conversation for a different thread but I’m much more interested in developing Bolduc than I am in trading him for a struggling prospect in Jiricek. IMO this team has just as big of a glaring need for top 6 quality forwards

He also knows his job is to help these kids develop, it’s why he got the job in the first place. Just ignoring their development and worrying about getting wins isn’t going to help him keep his job either

That was easy to do in the beginning of the season when this team was fully healthy. There was a passable foundation in place, but now with Thomas, Broberg, and Leddy out, this team is bottoming out as we speak (3-6-1 in their last 10 games). His patience with Bolduc is visibly shortened as evidence by him sitting again tonight after playing his first game back after sitting in the press box the 2 games before that.
