This Oilers team is still better than teams from years past.
Larsson and Sekera are legit D, Kelfbom is coming into his own, its the bottom 3 that are a problem -Nurse is young, Gryba is borderline AHL'er and Benning is only 22.
They were fast but soft for many years but you can say maybe they have too many guys like Kassian, Lucic and Maroon now...

They were also missing Russell, who makes a decent #4-5. Someone on the Oilers board said they were better off keeping Hall and signing Demers, I tend to agree with that. They're going to hate Lucic's contract in about 4-5 years. It looks like the fanbase wants to get rid of Eberle at all costs too...
I am so glad no one on this board runs the Kings. Apparently Muzzin and A-Mart are cap dumps down, and we should be so lucky for Vegas to take them off our hands.
I don't think anyone considers them as cap dumps.
Why are people worried about the expansion draft now? Won't even matter until the trade deadline at the earliest.
Why not keep an eye on how things might go in the draft? It's coming, and the Kings will lose at least one good player in the draft, or someone in the draft and a good player in a trade, or something. With Dowd and Forbort playing well, it changes the equation. The same way those two playing well changes the equation for this season and what the Kings could do on the ice. Same with Brown. Provided that the big guns do what they're expected to do.
can vegas take more than one player from a team? and will there be an order they pick from based on the end of the year standings like a normal draft
also was funny if you guys caught lucic listening to doughty and carter talking about winning the draw in the last 30 seconds or so
Yep. Some folks don't understand anything much about asset management.
Vegas will be taking one player from each team. All teams will submit their lists at the same time to the league. Then Vegas will have all 30 lists in front of them and be able to piece together exactly what they want. The announcement of the entire Vegas team will be made two days later.
All NMC's have to be protected. So Pittsburgh is going to lose Matt Murray as of right now. The obvious thinking is you trade Fleury but he has a NMC and every other NHL GM knows Pittsburgh is gonna lose Matt Murray. If any fans don't think the Vegas draft is a big deal it is. Teams aren't designed where some new team can just come pluck a player, it will hurt most NHL teams and Vegas is in a unique position as expansion drafts usually are for 2 teams. Vegas has all year to go over every possible scenario and pick the best team for them. I think it's exciting, surprised some fans don't think it's a big deal.
Pittsburgh will not lose Matt murray. No chance. Either Fleury will waive NMC or pittsburgh will buy him out.
Like i said every team is going to lose a dowd or forbort. The damage will be split evenly. Theres not that much to be overly concerned with.
I might have missed this here or in another thread, but how many players from each team is Vegas allowed to select in the expansion draft?
Yeah getting rid of a top 4 defenseman to protect a dime a dozen 3rd line center is great asset management.
Really? Dime a dozen. Please list out some of these dime a dozen 3rd line centers the Kings can afford.
2017 UFAs Boyle, Bonino, Hanzal, Gagner. If we can't sign any of these players, no problem. There is the trade route or we just use Kempe as our third line center. The 3C position is easy to fill, hell Lecavs got the job done last year. Name me a playoff proven top 4 we can afford next year if we lose AMart? We sure as hell won't do damage in the playoffs with two rookie defensemen in Gravel and Forbort.

I wouldn't go that far as even though they're learning I like the d's abilities as a unit more than in years, but I would point out we had a really hard time filling the 3C prior to Dowd's emergence, and losing him would hurt. But as pointed out elsewhere, it doesn't matter--we are going to get hurt no matter what unless Vegas decides they want Lewis or Clifford or some other "4th line" depth player (which would still hurt but isn't a 3C/4D position that every team is gonna lose).
