It’s about skating and forechecking, and making smart, crisp plays, and playing clean, aggressive, smart hockey. All things this team doesn’t do. Burning incense and sage and saying prayers to Jesus, Vishnu, Allah, Buddha, Lord Xenu, L. Ron Hubbard or whatever deity floats your boat is not going to win this group a cup.
Prayers? I bet the blues of 2019 were doing that when they were last mid season wanting to fire their coach got in with their last breath and took the cup from our hands in our own building. Just get in and hold your lotto ticket. Playoffs is lottery .

Would not shock me if Sweeney swings a trade thinking what you are saying .
Good hes a good gm and he knows it's all about to secure a spot for a chance to win the lottery and that's exactly what the Stanley cup is.

Yep and few points in being in a good spot in the Atlantic. Way too early for pressing the self destruct button like ripley did in alien.
Alien? As I said, there are enough crap teams in the league, and in our division, that we can possibly (I won’t say probably) eke-out enough points to get in. Problem is we’re one of the crap teams and the other ones are all saying the same thing too. Another problem is that the Metropolitan Division is a lot better so that doesn’t bode well for us in terms of a wild card spot.

You never know many top teams get knocked out in first round and opens up for a mediocre team to go far. It happened to us in 2019 when the mighty tampa record breaking season got swept by torts jackets . Just get in and let the Cinderella have a chance to show up come playoff time .I've seen so much nonsense when that silly season starts .

This team is not going to make the playoffs, Swayman sucks, no scorers to speak of, 2 FAs we signed are doing very little and as a team they can't even get on the same page.

Elias Lindholm was hardly on the ice tonight. Very gloomy time for us the fans and what we are used to.

Not to pile it on but if we are being honest, when has two big long-term UFA signings gone so south so quickly? Not just the Bruns, I mean league-wide?

If Zadorov and Lindholm had zero trade protection, does any NHL GM take on either of those contracts? Would any sane GM believe either player is still in the NHL 5-6-7 years from now? What GM takes on vitrually guaranteed buy-outs, at least they way this is already trending?

What does Jacobs think about the $84 million Sweeney and Neely committed to these two players?

Sure, if we get in. But to me it’s Florida, Toronto, ????. Could be us but could just as easily be TB, Ottawa or, hell, even Buffalo. And, again, both wild cards could easily come from the Metro too. So sure, us getting in is possible, but it’s far from probable (as things stand right now anyway).

Wc1 or wc2 I feel this team can nab it . I actually project them get 3rd in Atlantic. Just waiting for a 3 game winning streak and bingo you got something. It's very early.

I’m pretty sure Ripley hit that self-destruct at just the right moment. You know? Just before every single living thing on the Nostromo was killed…not after.
Yeah, but don watched it on ‘shrooms.

And as someone else already quoted Yogi Berra, it gets late early around here.

Don’s not wrong that things can change in a hurry and they are not out of anything by any means.

But I think everyone else has seen enough to know a turnaround ain’t gonna happen by sitting and watching at this point. Twice now they have looked like they might be turning it around after playing some meh teams only to then just get hammered by good teams.

They have played three sure fire playoff teams in the last nine games.

Against the bubble and worse teams they went 4-1-1.

Against those three playoff teams they are 0-3 getting out scored 19-4.

19-4!!!!!

Were like a few points from leafs to getting 2nd spot in Atlantic. How can anyone blow this up this early? Sounds nuts to me right now.
The Leafs and Bruins have played 18 games. Everyone else in the Atlantic has played less. Detroit and TB only have played 15. The Bruins are a .500 team so far. Hypothetically, if we stopped playing at 18 games and let those other teams play their remaining games, it's possible the Bruins could finish as low as 7th place. Unless TB runs the table, Florida will win the Atlantic. Zooming out, NYR, Carolina and Washington all have more points AND 3 games a piece at hand. I don't think they'd sink that low, but I have trouble seeing them finishing above 5th right now.

The standings right now are pretty deceiving since some teams have played so many games fewer than others.

Maybe not blow it up, but make a few moves to shake things up, let the players/staff know they can't be complacent

Don't be fooled by the scoreline - this was a close game on the deserve-to-win meter. According to Moneypuck, we win this game 47.8% of the time. Dallas had only 2.74 expected goals. Swayman was absolutely terrible. I like how Montgomery kept him in there both to send him a message and to avoid disrupting Korpisalo's mojo.
