It's the same old story. Give our D the puck and watch this team have no clue what to do, from the D to the forwards. They don't know how to move the puck up the ice if they are asked to take charge of the game. They can play against high power teams that like to attack themselves because that opens up space the other way too.
The answer cannot be dump and chase, there must be a system and structure in place and the team needs to move as a unit, and execute well as a team. But this team doesn't skate so everything is easy to stop.
Right, that's the problem, they don't skate. The roster needs work.
Maybe that's the reason I'm not tearing my hair out over who has a home game in the playoffs. I don't think this is a Stanley Cup roster in 2023.
Now, to be clear, I think they're a very good team if they continue to play the way they have most of the season. I maintain that the main issue has been goaltending/luck and they deserve better. They're probably a top-10 team.
Top-10 teams don't win the Cup. Top-2 or 3 teams win the Cup.
They're not fast enough and they don't have enough talent. A who's who of scrubs are still populating the top six. We had a chance to go forward with the team we had banking on a massive youth breakout, but it doesn't look like we're getting that.
Beyond that, it's not really out fault. With the cap where it is, you kind of have the team you have until it goes up.
When we do get a chance to augment the roster, we need to add speed and skill, and the one thing I fear is the FO looking at this and thinking "not enough things n' stuff, go get
another Goodrow!"
