Dare I say the team was better tonight than any of the last half dozen games (and I'm not forgetting the 2nd period).

We'll take the point but big mistake by #8. Should have backed off. No big deal

I don't agree. Don't give up the puck 3 on 3. It wasn't that dangerous of a play, the Avs just made something out of it. And I don't think Bob gives that much room to Duchene.

Is there any chance that the majority on this board will finally recognize what a special player Cam Atkinson has become? There is all this drooling over Wennie, Saad and Nick. But when it comes to Cam what is said is that he is a one dimensional player. He is a special talent. Can anyone agree?

I've never viewed him as one dimensional. I think he's one of our most dynamic offensive players and our faster style fits him well.

He is one dimensional, it's just a "special talent" for that dimension.

Best "whack the puck" player in franchise history.

I would hate to lose him, I'm also sure that he's going to cost a damned fortune in 2018. I'm not the best guy for keeping track of the long term salary space, has anyone else gamed this out? My guess is that we'll be making tough choices between Atkinson, Jenner, Karlsson, and Murray. Might only be able to keep 2 or 3 of them (if we haven't already lost 1 to expansion). Expansion might be the only way we can even afford Wennberg this coming summer (again I haven't researched the $ situation that much).

Edit: forgot the Clarkson LTIR benefit. If that's still a thing, then resigning Wennberg shouldn't be too hard. 2018 might still be an issue, I'm not sure.

Rough 2nd period, besides that we were better overall. Great 3rd period. Credit Varlamov with the win imo.

Mac was solid in goal.

2nd of a back to back with your 7 million dollar goalie given a night off, I'll take a point.

holy cow that crowd loooks abysmal

So quiet there.

Yes the crowd was quite small.. and after the effort/lifeless 2nd period there wasn't much to cheer for until the end.

Was at the game. Why did they stop play in the OT with puck in their end? Killed momentum.

Said the same thing.. Dubinsky was pissed.

Overall, walked out happy knowing we snuck in a point -- another example of a game I think last year we come out of with zero points. This team seems to find a way this year.

One other thing that stood out tonight was Colorado clogging the shot lanes.. didn't see the stats but I bet they had half a million blocked shots. Sure felt like it at least...

Varlomov had an issue with his mask after taking an Atkinson shot off of it.

Was at the game. Did the TV replay actually show a problem with the strap on his mask? Not only did it kill momentum, we had the puck deep in their zone - ended a scoring opportunity and then we had to have a face off (where we lost the puck).

Unless there is compelling evidence that I haven't seen yet, Varlomov is a dirty cheater! (Caps fans are probably saying it's karma for yesterday)

it looked legit to me. Cam's shot went up under the mask.

Were they playing the Jackets system? Wonder where they got that from. :sarcasm:

No seriously, there seemed to be loads of room on the cycle but the slot shots and cross crease passes were blocked off. It looked like what the Jackets do, and Varly looked like Bob.

I just watched the replay and I didn't see anything that required stopping play. That was a killer because the Jackets were controlling the puck in their end, putting a lot of pressure on, then a whistle comes out of nowhere and they win the faceoff. At the very least it was a very bad break.

I think a strap on his glove came loose. Outside of a helmet issue stoping play for equipment is BS.

Yep, exactly what I saw at the game. Jackets had a lot of shots on goal, but not a lot of quality ones. It wasn't as bad as the Arneil days where half the shots went into the goalie's chest, but it seemed like passes and shots tonight were hitting Colorado's sticks (not so much bodies). They had a lot of trouble getting off 'dangerous' shots. Even then, Avs goalie play was better and that made up for the shot disparity.

Kvetching aside - about that Cam (Werenski) Atkinson goal late! This team has made me say Wow more times already this season than the entire previous two.

He was the only defenseman on the ice (that he was aware of) and if he loses that battle then its a breakaway or at the very least an odd man rush. I would have backed off and lived to fight another day. Even if he wins that battle, whats the gain? He had no support.
