Well we lost the game. Think of it this way.

If we shat the bed and got badly outshot, but our goalie played amazing and we lost 2-1, it would be the same idea, but I bet you think of it vastly different.
Because it would be vastly different.

The only issue right now is our Vezina winning goalie having a rough start - where his resume says this is an outlier. The team itself is doing what we've wanted them to do for years - play well and consistently.

I also want them to play clutch.

Would have been nice to see them not allow shots when they were up 4-2 instead of giving up multiple 2 on 1s when up late in the third.

And then our goalie can't make a save.

It's a recipe for a disappointing ending.

Yes, the breakaway to end the second was a huge mistake, as was the clusterf*** that was the 2 minutes that cost us the win in regulation.

This is where I preach patience with Ullmark, because *usually* he has 2 of the 3 of those imo. And no team is ever going to play perfectly

Not capitalizing on tons of chances in the 1st and 2nd was rough. Put themselves in a tight game when they should have been ahead.

Set themselves up for the potential of blowing a game, and then did it with some poorly timed pinches without a forward covering. Needed a save from Ullmark, didn't get one. Very tough loss. Keep the pressure on teams going forward. Playing well!

Conversely, not scoring on Philly was because their goalie channeled his inner Hasek that game. Had he not...and I agree, we need to bury chances, it's like 5 to 1 in the second and we don't have the consternation of Ullmark not playing well

I mean, we scored 4. Not like we didn't have goal support. The team played fine, Ullmark had a stinker. Shit happens, but there was a lot to like about the game.

The only thing that disappointed me outside of goaltending was a bit of game management issues, we had a lead with 7 mins to go and Kleven is pinching halfway down the wall. He needed to play that less aggressively and make the safe play in that situation.

Im still sick about this one lol
It's a good sick though. We got a stinker from Linus. Usually we break down half the plays and argue about if it was the forwards, defence, coach, goalie or the roster constructions fault. The guys learn from it and roll it out again. Then do it again. And again. Mistakes get fewer. Saves happen. They will win more than they lose. I'm still disappointed mind you. It never should have went to OT.

Ya, we had a lot of opportunities to create a bigger lead, but could not.

People will focus the 4 goals that we got, but it's about taking advantage and being opportunistic at certain points or situations in a game that often separates the best teams from the average (or poor) ones. That’s going to get buried by those that are hyper focused on stats as way of trying to explain everything. I had a feeling that this was going to be a trap game when we didn’t score and stretch our lead when we had all of those opportunities.

We definitely needed some more saves from our goaltender though.

Man. We have played 180 great minutes of hockey. Ullmark played one really bad period and it cost us a point but he was solid in 3-2 win over Boston and he shutout the Leafs.

The third and OT sucked for our goalie but people need to step away from the ledge.

The 0 shots in 24 minutes to Boston won’t happen again. Don’t think it will. Teams do not normally hold other teams to 0 shots

It was 1 two on one.

Sure. Not the right play. But that’s why we went out a got a “elite” goalie and paid him huge money. So we can be comfortable making those plays knowing he will be back there

Every team is giving those up. Philly have Norris a breakaway with 15 seconds left on the clock in a 4-4 game

For sure, it's a mistake and mistakes happen. Ullmark needed to make another save that game, doesn't really matter which one.

For Kleven, it's a teachable moment. That's all I'm looking for, that he learns from it, and we move forward.

One thing I do love about this game is Green seeing things clearly. Mentioned poor goaltending, poor game management and a bad pinch by Kleven in his post game interview, without throwing players under the bus and embarrassing them.

DJ would have just talked about bad bounces without using this as a learning opportunity for Kleven.

Agreed. He was fair and honest in his assessment. And generally has been this season.

To be fair., I'm sure DJ recognized that Korpisalo was terrible, there's just no benefit it saying it to the media. With Green, he at least has a fall back option if Ullmark is struggling, he can play Forsberg who's having a decent start.

I agree. I can nitpik, but basically the team played another excellent game in front of a goalie who had a bad night.

I've made sure to say that several times in this thread, because I feel earlier iterations of this team would have folded when they scored late in the 2nd
