Detroit is further east than Nashville. But I think both Michigan and Tennessee have a weird split between their time zones, rather than the whole state in one time zone. I could be wrong about that though.
Las Vegas is west of Los Angeles. Let that one cook for a second if you've never heard that before.

Right?!?!

Like, I know why. The US is a very large piece of land and the Earth actually rounds significantly as you go from Detroit to Nashville, which widens the timezones and causes them to skew.

But STILL, Tennessee is on the Atlantic Coast and for some reason you can't tell my brain otherwise.
BUT, I hold this thought for Nashville.
Memphis...forget it, that is simultaneously the Deep South and West. Going there earlier this year solidified it.

It's always blown my mind that in order to get to some places in upstate NY you have to leave NY state first.
You know those highly questionable individuals from the city who root for the Bills because "only New York team!"

There are SEVEN NFL teams closer to NYC than the Bills. Seven.

That includes the honest to God Pittsburgh ass Steelers.

That's your New York team.

It's absurd, the Bills themselves play in Orchard Park. Orchard Park is a suburb of Buffalo. NYC is just unique that some of its suburbs are in another state. Why does the suburb being in a different state make a difference? And every time someone says it they think they said something clever, while it's been an argument people have been making for decades and it's grown stale 30 years ago.

It gets even more fun at the local level where they've gerrymandered the shit out of everything.

I live in Queens and I'm basically surrounded by Brooklyn in seven directions. You have to walk due east to stay in Queens.

You probably don't want to go into any of those 7 areas in Brooklyn.

Yeah, I remember it being full of hipsters last I checked.
That's a lot of places. It's something the media likes to overblow.

For my money, the sketchest place in New York now is where the Rangers play. 7th and 8th between 20th and 45th is an interesting walk, especially 8th.

You would think that would bring tickets prices down from two weeks salary to one weeks salary but hey ho, no such luck.

East New York is still pretty bad.

That area is like District 9

It is but that's all gangs. It's one of those places where they ain't gonna f*** with you if you're not from there. Civilians are trouble.

Midtown is where some cluck will follow you into to the bathroom at Penn Station and then want to fight you when you ask him nicely if you can piss in peace. I'll take East New York.

NYC felt significantly safer than its reputation when I was there in 2011. My mom & I weren't even asked for money by a single person there which is crazy, can't walk for 10 minutes in Vancouver without being harassed by people strung out on drugs. I also didn't witness any arrests, fights, etc. I don't recall the last day I've spent out in Vancouver where I didn't witness something like that. But pretty much every American city I've been to has felt safe; LA, Vegas, Jersey. Portland & Seattle are the only ones that feel nearly as sketchy as Vancouver to me but the people still have that American energy to them where they greet strangers which I love. Canadians are so much more reserved and "cold"
