Clearly miss Jake DeBrusk's consistent intensity.

Okay, maybe not, but would they benefit from his whining about the coach?
I mean, you jest but other teams feared him when he got going with his size and speed and ability to rip a shot. He did push D's back. Right now, the only player to fear is Pasta. Marchand used to, but his wheels are not what they used to be.

Really, this season should have been a reset. They spent too much to try and eak out another playoff. Should have been kids, with some 1-year deadline movable signings, top draft pick and sign big next off-season.

I said roster

One month ago few would have had Washington or Winnipeg ahead of Boston

I doubt either will be around late May

I had Winnipeg ahead of Boston, but not Washington.

But the Caps have a very capable young bald coach, and we have the other guy and his magical mystery machine line distributor.

Yeah...no Washington maybe since throwing together a bunch of free agents/trade acquisitions together and just saying f*** it doesn't usually work, but it has right now. But Winnipeg has;

Actual top 6 forwards in Scheifele, Connor, Vilardi and Ehlers. Like actual as in they belong in that spot rather than being thrown there because they have no one else in the Bruins case outside of Pastrnak and Marchand

Useful depth forwards in Lowry, Niederreiter, Appleton and Namestnikov (who somehow isn't getting completely blown away as a forced 2C.) Compared to numerous clones of the same bottom 6 forward we seem to have shitting up our lineup.

A strong, albeit not particularly flashy defense anchored by probably the league's most underrated d-man in Josh Morrisey. Their top guy is actually playing like a top guy whereas Charlie McAvoy is still trying to recovery from a lobotomy.

For my money the best goalie in the game in Connor Hellebuyck. I'm not obviously going to shit on Sway because he's legit, but Helly is still better.

I don't expect for people to know how good the Jets are since if i'm being honest, i'm pretty sure the only city that gives a shit is Winnipeg as they barely register on the radar in Canada, let alone down there, but still i disagree with this.
I got Winnipeg guys on my HFL SIM team and the FIRST box score I check every day - or watch as in yesterday because they were on at 3 v Dallas is Winnipeg, because I had drafted 4th OA Cole Perfetti, got tired of him getting hurt and traded him last March for Tyson Foerster. I knew Perfetti had 2 assists before the Bruins game started

I also drafted Vilardi when with Kings, had Schefele for years and at least once a year ask Dr Quincy aka Dave about trading for Ehlers off his team

I agree people may not know Winnipeg but if you offered me a dollar for how many Winnipeg players I know of from yesterday game I’m getting a bill with Andrew Jackson on it. I just looked to make sure lol (yah never know)

Other Jets in that game I have now is Logan Stanley and I had Pionk, and old friend Colin Miller, and former London Knights Vlad Namestkinov (playing second line now lol)

It’s probably pathetic I know all this

Mason Appleton did me in the 7th game of the semi finals 2 years ago with a third period goal so I’m kinda paying attention to him whenever he’s playing - plus I like his name

My 2024-25 Western teams ahead of Winnipeg
Edmonton
Colorado
Dallas
Vegas

And Canucks maybe, same with Wild, and Kings right there

Great story but when two Peabody Ghosts of HFL Logan Stanley & Colin Miller are regulars on D I’m not convinced they are legit - and Perfetti & Valardi both have been major injury prone (back & shoulder/concussion three bad areas)

They got the G but to me they are short a high end C unless Perfetti moves off wing and can handle it

It’s a surprising nice story but the sum way exceed the parts

The opposite of the Bruins

The first half of the game was actually very entertaining. No shots in the third is inexcusable, not to mention they hadn't had one for the last 5 minutes (I think) in the 2nd. Somehow they are in third place in the Atlantic today?

It seems like Monty wants to go, so just do it now because that isn't going to get any better if the coach has thrown up his hands. Nothing to lose really if they let him go, how much worse can it get (no, I don't want anyone to tell me.....this week has been bad enough already). At least the next games are late, so I'll miss the scoreless, shotless third periods!

His constant switching is bothersome I would imagine. They probably to a man never appreciated him grabbing Marchand on camera by shoulder either .I really feel he has worn out his wlcm already here with key parts of this roster.Saying he has no answers takes cake.
This is their careers. If they aren't trying hardest because they don't like the (another) coach, then that's on them. No heart. Sure, fire the coach of a .500 team. But if they stay .500 after that then nobody in this whole organizatin should be safe. And clearly the current captain is not cut out for the job. The problem is, nobody else on the roster is either.

Special teams are the issue imo. If you cant score on pp and give up at least a goal a game on pk you won’t win many games. Also effort last night in the 3rd was unacceptable.

From what I'm reading this team has quit. In fact, I've been reading it here since the 2nd week of the season. If that's the case and they've quit on the coach, then it's up to the captain to get them to play for themselves and each other. But yet I'm still reading that they've quit. Thus, this means the captain isn't doing his job well.

If he's not getting them to play harder then what makes him a good captain?

These guys are pros. Captains job is not to get them to play harder. They have to do that on their own. Not high school rah rah lets go boys. Captain job is to make them accountable for their play. Have a talk with them and get them to realize they need better effort.

Had Swayman stopped what looked like a routine save they are up 2-1, they don’t need to take any shots over the last 24 minutes ~ they actually conserve energy. They have won 4 of 5 and all good.

It remains early times in the 2024-25 season, but the Bruins’ results are beginning to grow old.

Again challenged to produce significant scoring chances, including a third period in which they failed to land a shot on net (their first third-period bagel since Dec. 21, 2006), they suffered a 3-2 overtime loss to the Senators at the Garden.

Ex-BU forward Brady Tkachuk drove home the winner, scoring only 21 seconds into the 3-on-3 OT, just a few ticks after Elias Lindholm finally landed the Black-and-Gold’s first shot on ex-Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark in nearly 25 minutes.

Following the defeat, Bruins coach Jim Montgomery kept his media session short, clearly frustrated that he has been unable to get better out of a team that was expected to be among the big dogs in the Eastern Conference once again.

To this point, the big dog hasn’t had much bark.

Montgomery was asked if he questions whether his charges are listening to him.

“No, I don’t question that,” he said.

The follow-up question asked the coach what he felt was preventing the message from getting through to the team.

“It’s up to you guys to figure that out — come up with the reason,” he said to the assembled media. “We just weren’t good enough. You guys can write, but . . . what you think is the malaise on the team and what’s going on? We’re just not playing well enough.”

The loss, in which the Bruins lost hold of a 2-1 lead late in the second period, again prevented the Bruins (7-7-2) from nosing above the .500 mark. They have not been north of break-even since their 5-3 win in Denver on Oct. 16, going 4-5-2 since.

They still have 66 games to go in the regular season, but some five weeks into the schedule, everyone in the organization has to be troubled by the results thus far, specifically the club’s overall lack of emotional spark.

“We have to look internal,” said team captain Brad Marchand, whose goal early in the second provided the 2-1 lead, “and understand that we need to be accountable and better in certain areas throughout the game — expect more from ourselves. I don’t think you can point to X’s and O’s, it has to come from will and determination at this point.”

Asked about the club’s consistent inability to tap into a productive emotional level, the captain said it’s the players’ jobs to find ways to get there.

“We have to find ways to bring different emotion to the game,” he mused, “and whether you have to fake it til you make it, or find different ways internally or externally, whatever it is.”

“Our team,” continued Marchand, the last guy standing from the club’s 2011 Cup win, “is supposed to be a big, strong, aggressive team. We haven’t been showing that as of late.”

The Bruins were outshot, 12-0, in the final period of regulation — low entertainment value for the Garden faithful. They’ve had a hard time scoring all season. Now they are challenged to land shots.

In the old Garden, the leather lungs among the sainted Gallery Gods would have shaken down the thunder in protest. “Hey, Cashman, where’s that blazing slappah?”

In 2024, the faithful sit there, $16 beers in hand, awaiting the chance they’ll see their faces on the wicked cool video board above center ice.

With a the power play dying on the vine, it looks like time for Hampus Lindholm to wrest the No. 1 PP point job from Charlie McAvoy, who most nights, including Saturday, is too reluctant to fire on the advantage.

I'm starting to get Wes Walz vibes from Poitras. For those of you not old enough, that's not a good thing.

OMG, do you know how to read standings? Do you just look at points and current position and take no interest in games at hand and results in the "last 10"?
Walz was essentially Tyler Johnson later in his career. That's not a shot at either. Both played into their mid 30's in the NHL. Walz became a decent defensive forward with Minnesota the last 4 years of his career and played full seasons with a good Wild team.

I get they need offense from Poitras but you either need to be patient with him.

i cant believe they havent fired him yet.
like i said before, he shoulve been gone after the 2023 playoff choke
I'm of the mind that Cassidy should never have been fired and so I've never taken a shine to Montgomery. That said, his time is almost up. Who to replace him that could get this team to at least compete, is a mystery. What can you say about that 3rd period last night? Woof!

Wel if this roster is so good then why is it not producing on a regular basis. No lame excuses, if you have so much talent then as a team we should be a whole lot more consistent. I think putting your best effort into every game is how Florida gets such good results and should be an example of what is required.

We did not get 1 shot on goal for a whole period and a half against a rebuilding Ottawa team.

A lot of worked needed to even attempt to turn this situation around.
