I thought they were looking pretty good right after we went up 2-1. They were playing with pace, making plays, getting pucks to the net... Then Ottawa scored what looked like a real softy, other camera angles showed some bodies in the way so maybe not a softy but I wonder how it looked from the bench. They don't really get the benefit of those replays.

Then the power play did what it does, i.e. ignore a half dozen grade A opportunities to shoot until they eventually make an errant pass and that further killed momentum.

That attitude (making the extra, extra, extra pass) is even infecting the fourth line now, who had a 3on1 and everyone frigging passed it until they lost it.

Don't know what happened in the 3rd. They went back to such poor execution and bad decisions. Passes off the mark, dump ins and dump outs (i.e. turnovers) when there's no pressure and no need to get rid of it.

That was a winnable game. They were in looking good up 2-1... Then they gave it away. So frustrating.

The Bruins are easily the weakest shooting team in the league and it's not even close.

You can't win in today's game if every goal you score is either an east-west play for an open net or something in tight like a rebound or tip. Teams just cheat and take away everything from the mid-slot and lower as they know the Bruins can't (won't) shoot and score from anywhere higher. Go watch other teams, they can score from range and off-the-rush almost every game.

As a group, the Bruins are the slowest group of forwards in the league. Not a single player who can threaten with speed and push the D-men back off the blue-line. Teams just cheat and hold that blueline forcing weak dump-ins (dump and changes) and turnovers. I actually think Cole Koepke is the Bruins fastest forward by a considerable margin.

It was F*&*^& obvious after 2022-23. It was even more F8*&^& obvious after last year. And they did nothing to fix it in the off-season, and if anything, made it worse.
No, that type of play/players moved to the Florida Panthers.

lol I know this is probably frowned upon here but I really like the way Florida plays hockey.

Reminds me of Boston 2009-2014

Florida's style (when it works) can be fun to watch. But it's far from the only way to win a hockey game. Reality is very few teams play like they do. And to pull it off, you need the right personnel with the right coach who can get max effort out of the group (especially up front). It's a hard style to play night-in, night-out.

The Bruins tried to become more "Florida-ish" in the off-season. But all they did was create the Temu version of the Panthers. It lacks the right personnel, it lacks the right coach. It took Bill Zito several years (and another coach) to finally get his roster to point where it could play that style and be effective with it. You can't expect to change your entire style in one off-season. You can't expect the coach to be able to change their style and systems overnight either. It takes time to build those habits.

I'm not letting Monty off the hook (he's got his issues, no doubt about it), but Sweeney basically said to him "here's the essentially same roster as last year, but we want to play a totally different style". Because it's clear some of the motivation to their off-season moves was to beat Florida in the playoffs. How else can you explain spending piles of $$$ and term on the Russian minor penalty machine known as Nikita Zadorov?

I've wanted him gone for years, Dan.

And yet, he's still here.
We need to clean house.
Not that it means a damn thing, but that's where I'm at too. I'd fire everyone except for Bob Essensa. Special teams used to be the metric for coaching, and they're dreadful at both. They fade as the games go on, like the other team is making adjustments and the Bruins aren't.

I remember when they looked DOA under Cassidy and Sacco took over for a roadtrip and the team looked rejuvenated. So maybe he is the answer, I dunno.

Bruins roster is better than Winnipeg & Washington they just need a little magic - Sacco Magic

You watch
Well Winnipeg has 67 goals and are a + 31, Washington has 59 goals and are +19. We on the other hand have 40 goals and a -12.

I think we are far behind Winnipeg and not close to par even with Washington.

Yes... Swayman had twice as many shots than Ullmark, but that 2nd goal he let in should be taken off his hefty check he now gets. Honestly!

I can nick pick and skewer through the line up of who showed and who didn't. In the end it was the Coach who didn't show up.
Home ice, tied game going into the 3rd...nothing. Wow.

Too young yet. I don't think he'll ever be a big impact guy but at the same time he's only played like what, 50 games at the NHL level? Without any other pro level experience.

Can't expect him to be an answer with that in mind.
I don’t mean he’s the answer, or blame him for the teams many struggles. I just mean what’s he done lately to warrant being up?

He can be sent to Providence. Might be good for him?

Why not try Merk? Lysell’s got zero nhl action. Poitras isn’t playing like he was last year. Feel they’re all in the same boat & why’s one guy getting nhl reps and the others haven’t sniffed?

Team has enough centers

I said roster

One month ago few would have had Washington or Winnipeg ahead of Boston

I doubt either will be around late May

I noticed that and mentioned it last game that they seem to fade. Almost looks like bad cardio but really its not adjusting to opponents adjusting to them.

Sacco Magic? Please haven't we suffered enough!? 🤣

If they clean house except for goalie Bob, Sacco gotta go too.

Yeah...no Washington maybe since throwing together a bunch of free agents/trade acquisitions together and just saying f*** it doesn't usually work, but it has right now. But Winnipeg has;

Actual top 6 forwards in Scheifele, Connor, Vilardi and Ehlers. Like actual as in they belong in that spot rather than being thrown there because they have no one else in the Bruins case outside of Pastrnak and Marchand

Useful depth forwards in Lowry, Niederreiter, Appleton and Namestnikov (who somehow isn't getting completely blown away as a forced 2C.) Compared to numerous clones of the same bottom 6 forward we seem to have shitting up our lineup.

A strong, albeit not particularly flashy defense anchored by probably the league's most underrated d-man in Josh Morrisey. Their top guy is actually playing like a top guy whereas Charlie McAvoy is still trying to recovery from a lobotomy.

For my money the best goalie in the game in Connor Hellebuyck. I'm not obviously going to shit on Sway because he's legit, but Helly is still better.

I don't expect for people to know how good the Jets are since if i'm being honest, i'm pretty sure the only city that gives a shit is Winnipeg as they barely register on the radar in Canada, let alone down there, but still i disagree with this.

One thing I was wondering watching this one. What happened to cycling the puck?

Krejci, Horton, Lucic, three guys that wouldn’t win a race against my 8 year old daughter if you gave them a lead. Used to do it beautifully. Generated chances. Limited turnovers. Made them a handful to deal with.

Did that kind of play just die out altogether?

It certainly beat watching the one and done lazy wrister from the point we’re subjected to nightly now
Florida won a cup off of their cycle game
