Disclaimer: “GDT may not be 100% accurate. I got the line combos from your mom. I used to have Center Ice, Gamecenter Live, and an undercover concession worker in each arena, but this **** costs money. I will admit that my pet otter is using all up that money on his worsening opium problem. I try to not be an enabler, but I haven't had a sea urchin problem in months. Then I thought, why should I pay all this money and have a sea urchin problem to appease fans of random teams that I don't even care about anyway? Unless you are willing to take a bunch of sea urchins off of my hands, don't ***** if I get the lines wrong.” - BF

I.E.
It's almost like we're better against better teams. The chaos and disorganization and sloppy play of other teams works against us. So tonight should be a good one!

There is no such thing as an easy win for the Kings

True. I'm not saying they were or should be easy at all. But the games have been winnable if not for mistakes and getting outworked in stretches (I hate when teams outwork us). Compared to the first three games where we were just sloppy all over the ice.

Here is the Isles scouting report - they will probably have a stretch of solid play probably the 1st or 2nd period where they will out hustle and out work the Kings.

-Brian Strait will be on the ice for one if not many goals against. He will make a bone play to get called for a penalty. He is the Isles' version of Greene with less skill and ability.

-If the Isles go into the third with a lead they will play the hockey version of "prevent defense" which will prevent them from getting 2 points.

-If the Isles have a 3 goal advantage then the Kings are in the driver's seat as the team tends not to go for the kill and inevitably loses these leads.

Hey Trollposo - I heard that the Isles were only playing to like 75% capacity in their new building. What's up with that? People just don't want to travel to Brooklyn, poor site lines, not adding new local fans?

I've never heard of a team, especially a promising one like the Isles, drawing fewer fans after moving to a new building...

The arena isn't built for hockey. Many seats are obstructed, the sightlines are poor, etc.

Also, it's not like they built a new arena where it was. The team moved to NYC (which Long Island is not a part of). People on East Long Island who were diehards can't really go to games. Plus, people who were used to driving to the game really can't anymore, since it's more a public transportation play. A lot has changed even though they only moved a few miles east. NYC is dense and compact, so it makes a big difference.

Think about it like this: your best friend and you live in Mar Vista. Your friend moves to the Valley. Bye bye friend. :(

The move to Brooklyn has a lot of facets to it. The first being the Islanders home territory was/is Long Island. While Brooklyn is geographically not too far away, once you get NY traffic involved it becomes cumbersome for many of these LI based fans to come out on a regular basis. There is mass transit which makes it a little easier but either way, what was once a 1/2 hour trip to the game is now a 1 1/2 hour one way excursion. So that is one issue.

Two the arena is not designed for a hockey rink. It is built for basketball. Originally the plan was for a dual sport venue but the NIMBY people in Brooklyn and an economic downturn changed that plan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barclays_Center#Design

Plenty of obstructed view seats make it the worst arena to watch an NHL game despite Barclay's being an otherwise beautiful facility.

Plus the Mets making the World Series and the team is usually a weak draw in the beginning of the season also play into it.

I've been to three games - the home opener, the Flames and Devils games. I've sat in the lower bowl for all three games and it was fine but it is easy to see where watching the game from obstructed seats will have you end up staring at the jumbotron to watch some or all of the game. I do not plan on sitting in 200s if I can help it as those seats are steeply pitched and the view is awful.

I think if the Isles continue to become a contending team they will draw like the SC champion Devils did - selling out the final half of season and post season games and being 1/2-3/4 filled at other times.

It was an optional skate, and not everybody got on the ice. Jhonas Enroth was the first goaltender off, and he confirmed that he’ll be in net against the Islanders.

-Because it was an optional skate, there weren’t any real line rushes that offered a firm indication towards tonight’s lineup. But because Christian Ehrhoff didn’t linger, and because Derek Forbort and Jordan Weal remained on late with Matt Greene (who remains on injured reserve) and Jonathan Quick, it appears as though Ehrhoff will draw in for Forbort.

-With that in mind, I’ll take a stab at tonight’s lines and pairings: Pearson-Kopitar-Gaborik, Lucic-Carter-Toffoli, Brown-Shore-Lewis and Clifford-Andreoff-Nolan. Defensive pairings could be McNabb-Doughty, Muzzin-Martinez and Ehrhoff-McBain. I’ve discontinued the “Level of Confidence in Projected Lines” for this season’s game previews, but that stab would earn a solid “B” if it were still a thing.

We're in good shape if Enroth starts, he's going to go 7-1 this season with 4 shutouts and a 0.83 GAA just so that HFB posters can tell us how much Quick sucks.
