The hit ended up being dangerous because Carlo tried to just stop to handle the puck instead of bracing himself properly like everyone else with sense would do in that situation, since his balance was shifted forward, that's why he launched like that.

Carlo slammed on the breaks 3 feet away from the boards, Benn thought he was going to keep skating to the boards and didn't adjust.

Stupid hit but not as egregious as some will make it out to be.
