First game all season where they seemed to have established an identity. They played with effort. They played with heart. Korpi was very good. The boys played mean. I want this type of team going forward.

This was a good stepping stone. Keep it going!

PHILADELPHIA — Joonas Korpisalo, stopper.

In desperate need of getting both their games — on the ice and in their heads — back in order, the Bruins on Saturday turned to the 6-foot-3-inch Korpisalo, the 30-year-old Finn who responded with 20 saves in a tidy 3-0 blanking of the Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center.

“Yes, and for everyone,” said Korpisalo, asked if the win generated some much-needed good feelings among the rank-and-file. “The game today, we took the driver’s seat right away, kept it, and that was a good 60 minutes for us.”

By period, Korpisalo turned away shots totaling five, seven, and eight. By no means a heavy workload — an encouraging sign for the bedraggled Boston backline — but Korpisalo was tested on 4-5 low-slot offerings that easily could have escaped the clutches of a less competent goaler.

The saves were timely and sharp, essential to the win.

“You know, every game there’s gotta be timely saves,” said the mild-mannered Korpisalo, “and you’ve got to be ready to do those. I think we weathered the storm today pretty well. I only had to make 1-2 saves and that’s it.”

“One hundred percent,” said Korpisalo, asked if he could see his teammates gaining confidence throughout the afternoon. “The first period we were so good. And having the lead, you know, it’s easier to play with the lead than chase the game … like I said, we were in the driver’s seat today.”

It was Korpisalo’s fifth career shutout, his first since a short stint with the Kings in 2022-23, and he improved to 2-2-0 with a 2.70 goals-against and .894 save percentage so far this season.

“I thought he was great,” said team captain Brad Marchand. “He gave us an opportunity to win. He’s been really good, especially as of late. It’s great when you have a game like that, to be able to build confidence off it.

“Seems he is getting better and better every day. He’s a great guy, good to have in the room, and that was an unbelievable performance today.”

Korpi is slowly settling in. His first game I'd throw out the window. Opening night starter vs the cup champs when you're confidence isn't there from the season before. His next 3 starts...

1.35 GAA / .936 SV% / 1 SO

2 of those starts were vs a bad PHI team, but he's still had to make some big saves. I said when we acquired him that if he can give you around a 2.50 GAA / .915 SV% for the season, then he replaces what Ullmark gave you.

His 5v5 numbers are 2.27 GAA / .913 SV% for the season. He's getting lit up on the PK and mostly due to the piss poor team PK as a whole. If they can clean up the PK, I see no reason why Korpisalo can't be around 2.50 GAA / .915 SV% for the season.

The legs were there today because of a day off without practice yesterday.

Good decision coaches and good win. The early power play was a gift as it gave us momentum right from the start of the game.

We never looked back.

I’m also liking Jk.

If he keeps playing great I can see him playing 40 games.

Not much to complain about.

Might not have beaten Florida, TB, Dallas with this effort but they would have been in it.

Hopefully they gain some confidence from it and carry it over tomorrow and keep building.

If it were up to me, I truly might ride Korpisalo tomorrow as well.

Korpi becoming our #1
He is a good goalie. We have a guy that has been a starter but for some pretty lousy teams. At 3 mil who'll likely get 30 games he's good bang for the buck.

Poitras was noticeably grittier around the net which was nice to see

Saw some effort from Coyle and Zacha. Zacha hit the goalie with a shot. If the goalie wasn't there it would have been a goal.

Pasta......hmmmm....

I thought the Flyers came out a bit dull, still ...we needed this.
A win tomorrow could almost think we could turn this around
