You've churlishly blocked me, but anyway...this is fair that Smith has had to deal with some adversity. But so has every Sharks's prospect ever! Eklund in his first year had to deal with it. Hertl, Couture, Pavelski, Goodrow, etc. all had to deal with being yanked around, stapled to the bench, given subpar linemates, etc.
Hertl absolutely did NOT have to deal with that, nor did Couture. Pavelski perhaps but those were still good, deep teams with close to elite defenses. Eklund's first 9 game stints he got to play with the likes of Hertl, Karlsson, Couture and Burns 5v5 and on the PP. Smith is not playing with a single player anywhere near that caliber, even on the PP. His linemates are so bad he's drawing doubleteams, it's the opposite of helping him succeed.

The top 10 skaters Eklund played with during his 1st two NHL seasons, in order:

Tomas HertlC
Erik KarlssonD
James ReimerG
Logan CoutureC
Kaapo KahkonenG
Mario FerraroD
Adin HillG
Fabian ZetterlundL
Rudolfs BalcersL
Alexander BarabanovL
Brent BurnsD
Marc-Edouard VlasicD
Kevin LabancR

This is what Smith has been dealing with, which oddly I didn't realize he played so much with Zetterlund. But this is absolutely abysmal:

Vitek VanecekG
Fabian ZetterlundL
Luke KuninC
Barclay GoodrowC
Mackenzie BlackwoodG
Henry ThrunD
Cody CeciD
Jake WalmanD
Mario FerraroD
Jan RuttaD
Matthew BenningD
Klim KostinC

What happens first; Hodge admits he may be wrong or the sharks win the cup?
All I know is that if the former happens, the universe implodes.

I don't know who this female color announcer is on the ESPN feed but I'm enjoying her.
I don't feel like she adds anything to the game, but I also wonder if I have some subconscious misogynist attitude towards female broadcasters that I just can't get past.

Vanacek to me looked pretty rough tonight. He had some saves of course, and I'm not usually one to blame the goalie, but the rebounds are a little out of hand and he totally froze on the breakaway where he could have poked or been more aggressive to freeze puck -- still traumatized from his ESPN Bottom 10 highlight vs. Vegas.
He looks like late stage Martin Jones , every save was a battle constantly flopping around in the net, constantly behind the play. He was so bad Granlund had to make a save in net. But a lot of players were doing that for him. I’d rather see Askarov get his next start at this point it’s clear the team doesn’t trust him in net

The reason I prefer him over Blackwood is that Blackwood gives up more soft goals IMO, but agreed that I was going nuts why he didn't go out to meet that puck and just stayed between the pipes. He was damn lucky he didn't give up a goal there.

Re: the defense
A lot of the second period we were on the PK, so Ferraro, Rutta were out there alot and halfway through the second Rutta left the bench so Ferraro, Benning were getting double-shifted to oblivion. Coach didn't let play Thompson so sometimes you cannot fault the d-men who were out there because they were probably dead-tired (physical tiredness affects decision-making too). This is where we need the forwards to get on the walls and really help out.

Re: Celebrini
He was in the stands. It was great seeing him, it made me happy he's alive lol
Why do they make him wear a suit to watch his teammates? Just one of those unnecessary stupid rules that overly anal coaches impose that have that is supposed to promote discipline but really just is a needless pain in the ass.

It's to remind players that they are representing the team when they are at the game. They wear the same attire as the other highly-paid employees who work desk jobs.

This is hockey culture... Suits are the norm across the league for pregame, during game, hell even at the NHL draft the kids were all in high end suits and their moms and sisters were all wearing fancy cocktail attire. Not something to be mad at Warso about, definitely another quirk about hockey you can like or dislike.

Aren't all the players supposed to show up to the game dressed in a suit and tie?

He should have to be in full uniform. Helmet and all.

Curious what we can get in return for trading Granlund or Toffoli?

Toffoli has a no trade clause and signed here because he wanted to settle in one place, he’s going nowhere.

Granlund, as many of us have said, should probably only be traded for a 1st/good defensive prospect (unless he doesn’t want to re-sign, then you get what you can get). Otherwise, we need guys like him to help transition this team to the kids.
