The "principle point of contact" on the Dubinsky - Koivu his is clearly Koivu's head. That violates rule 48, therefore the hit is not clean. I don't know if I agree with the penalties apparently handed out by one of the linesmen during the game, but it is certainly a suspendable hit.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=64063

"However, in determining whether such a hit should have been permitted, the circumstances of the hit, including whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit or the head contact on an otherwise legal body check was avoidable, can be considered."

So much uncertainty here. To me Koivu obviously "put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit" and "the head contact on an otherwise legal body check" wasn't avoidable.

And btw it's just a minor.

Just seeing both hits -- thanks deet.

Don't think Bushman got Arty in the head. Think Dubi got Koivu in the head first, although... It's only head first because of Koivu's body position. And it's not an 'inappropriate angle' check, which IMO are much worse. At least Dubi lined him up square.

That said, he'll probably get a few games.

The more I see the gif of the hit where you can see Dubinsky approaching the camera, the less I think there should've been ANY penalty called. It's times like these that replay should be used in making a penalty call. Not for your everyday 2 minute minor, but if we're talking about a 5 minute major with a game misconduct called by a linesman on the backside of the play, you damn well better be sure you know what you're calling and that it is the right call.

You're already holding up the game to have a powwow of morons. Might as well make use of the technology we have to minimize the stupid.

I'm still not over this game... Had Dubinski not been kicked out I think we win it... His hit was not illegal, Koivu had his head down and his injury was from the ice not the hit...

I also can't believe we had close to 15 minutes of short handed play to around 1 for the Ducks.. someone watched our Toronto game the night before and decided we needed some penalties.. time to move on but it will be hard to forget this one.

As it stands now, no hearing scheduled for Dubinsky. Although there was head contact, was the major point of impact Koivu's body?

We can argue those hits all day, but the bottom line is, you have to find ways to win against good teams if you are going to become a good team. We had plenty of oppurtunities for guys to step up and make big plays, and more often than not, noone answered the call.

We played well, but not good enough to beat an elite team on home ice.

just posted this in the thread on the mains

not sure how anyone can say "its clear"

i've watched the gifs 20x b/t last night and this morning and one time it looks like shoulder to stick to face with duby hitting body and Koivu hitting himself with his own stick...then i'll watch it again and think that Duby hits him in the face with shoulder as Koivu is ducking his head...

I was in attendance....I booed the call, I clapped for Koivu going off the ice on his feet...but to the poster that said we all were booing Koivu keep generalizing....

Foligno getting called for going after Bushman after his hit on Arty, but Fowler getting nothing for going after Duby is BS

You see, here is where I disagree. We DID play well enough to beat an "elite team" [which I really don't think the ducks qualify as] on home ice, or at least well enough to get a point. We did not play well enough to beat an elite team plus 4 zebras that decided they wanted to impact the game by throwing out one of our better players mid way through the game for a borderline hit.

Call me a whiner for complaining about the refs, but as bad as I thought the refs were for the Toronto game [calling things that most squads would let go], at the very least they were consistent. When people are getting hauled down and checked on both teams but only one is getting the calls, I have to question the competency of the officials or the integrity of the game.

The primary job of the refs is to protect all the players on the ice from illegal play. When our guys are getting blown up [Anisimov] and get penalized for standing up for one another, but the other team has the same thing happen and walks away scot free, you aren't doing your job and you need to be held accountable.

Fair enough.

Once again, that loss sucked. We've got a week to prepare for a home and home against Pittsburgh. Hope they're ready.

It's often said that the calls even out, but rarely so quickly! Friday, the Leafs fans cried about the benefit they saw given the Jackets by the officials, now it's our turn. The next game isn't until Friday, so there may be enough time for some of the injuries to the forwards to heal. It is my hope that no further sanction will be imposed on Dubi; but, with what we've seen over the last few years, who can tell what the league will do! All hands will be needed on deck to have a chance against the Pens. I dread the thought of being short handed and being run out of our own arena on Saturday.

Longshot request here, but does anyone know our record when wearing the 3rd jerseys? Or even how to figure that out without it taking forever?

Seems like we usually lose in them.

I'll be watching for the next game misconduct after incidental head contact in the future….

Whatever, a crap call and I'm not whining, I'm *****ing...

Time to move on dot org.... let’s beat the Pens, twice... that will make up for a cursed game.

I was hoping we were past the ghosts of Scott Arniel... I don't know our record but he was the first lo link losing and the 3rd's if I recall.... win or lose I like the 3rd's...

I think Nordique already said we lost because we didn't make enough plays vs. an elite team, he made no mention of the sweaters...

I'll take a split with the Pens- btw does that make me a glass half empty or half full guy?

A cautious guy... a split is minimum imo, if we are going to make the playoffs we must start winning more than we lose... 3-5 in the last 8 is not good enough.. I want two wins vs the Pens... ;)
