Allen wants to play more games. allen maybe 3rd string goalie? Granted he was blitzed tonight and made a couple of good saves; the D corps also looked awful, but he's directly responsible for the 4th goal and was swimming on Matthews' tying goal. We won't even discuss the first.
still, game was entertaining and habs battled

... but not on the OT PP
yeah... maybe especially that. With all the extra space, it's even easier to score a PK goal off of a bad turnover.

i'm not saying that they kept him off intentionally so much as the players that played were the best options at that point and at a high level, I'm sure that the intent with Slaf this year is to support his development, not lean on him to deliver at crunch time.

FFWD a few months, maybe weeks, of him playing as well and as effective as he was tonight, and i bet you see him used more frequently in high pressure moments.

Newhook speed on the bench on 3 on 3
That's Marty's wisdom for ya. Game one of the season and I am already done with this coaching staff. Frankly I've been done with them 1/4 way through last season. They give all they got to give... there is just not much. Nice guys... good in the room and all... but gotta go. Need real NHL coaching staff, not a bunch of amateurs.

In all honesty, I'm okay with this. On a pure talent level, we have absolutely zero business hanging the Leafs out for 5 goals. The fact we were almost up 3-0 is insane. Our biggest letdown was some shoddy defense and goaltending.

Allen, man. He had some great saves but holy hell when he f***ed up. He f***ed up.
True, true.
