Game #1 : KINGS vs. WILD - 10/3/13 - Shootout Win!

As I often say in hockey, sometimes you play well and lose, sometimes you play poorly and win...I don't remember seeing the Kings get dominated in possession, shots, faceoffs and territorial the way they were last nite and still get 2 points. In a lot of ways, that was a statement game for Quick.

Let's see what goes down tonite.

I just about went through the roof when they allowed that first goal. I was fuming. Glad they won that game. Even though it's early in the season, stuff like that can change everything.

Pretty unimpressed. For a team that's supposed to pride itself on possession, we were thoroughly trounced in that area. I'd be willing to chalk it up to whatever if it wasn't for the team picking up seemingly where they left off last year - getting thoroughly outplayed, but relying on Quick and a certain brand of opportunism to steal a victory. Credit to the team for at least having that, but we have a lot of work to do.

They'll likely turn it around, but they were just crushed last night in every area but the scoreboard. Getting sick of seeing that, going back to the playoffs last year.

Geez.. a lot of stong feelings for one game, the first game of the season, and one in which the Kings won.

Unlike most of you nitpickers, I was just happy to be watching the Kings and watching them win. I woudn't care if they did it sharting pucks into the net. I guess I don't like to get out the analytical scalpel and dissect everything. That being said, Muzzin was horrible, Greene and Regher are slow, King is useless, wtf is up with that 4th line, Kopitar needs to be more aggressive, Brown is clearly still hurt, Williams looked like full Pejorative Slur Williams, I'm nicknaming the 2nd line the "Frat Party", Richards should be he third line center and Stoll looked like he was having a seizure half the game. I did think Ellerby played one hell of a game. If he keeps it up, he can keep sitting in the press box because I think he does it better than anyone else on the team.

I think that's a mostly fair observation and agree largely with it.

It is too early to see if things will remain this way and the addition of Fratts will impact the way the top 6 plays but we do need to continue to work our system more effectively if we plan on returning to dominant hockey. I think we will but agree that we have to more then just enough until the playoffs roll around. Start the season showing why we belong among the top 4 again and then find a comfortable level of play until the end.

I can wait a month or so at this point before I get any worry going if things don't steadily improve which I think they will.

I was pissed to before I saw the replay, but then I saw what happened and it was a blown coverage by Greener and not anything Quick did or didn't do. Quick was outstanding last night.

Alright!

HansH. will you do this again this year? Maybe we can get a sticky for you so we can follow your updates. Thanks for being on top of it early.

GKG!

Sure! I'll likely be throwing "gems" like this into many of the PGTs as we go through the season, and closer to daily as we get to the crunch times - I won't commit to them ALL, but I'm a numbers geek, so I'm likely going to do it even just for myself. :)

Greene, Mitchell and Regehr were taken apart by Minnesota's quick forwards. All three of them looked awful.

I, for 1, am shocked that 1 of the worst dmen in the league looked awful and dragged Doughty down with him. This is so unusual as last year he was nothing but great game in game out

Yup. Kings looked sloppy, but still came out with the win. Good teams do that. It's early in the season, see if you can find a coach out there right now that is happy with their team, just look at the amount of goals scored if nothing else. It's a process and one that the Kings will correct.

Honestly could see this year having lots of parrallels to 2012, with some useless veterans perhaps getting replaced by hungry youngsters, however I think the coaching is better, the youngsters are better, and DL will recognize the signs quicker. Still think this team will take the division.

And the scary part was that Greene, somehow, looked worse!

Sorta same here, but you also have to take into account it's their first game of the year (automatically sloppy--look around the league) vs. a really good team (Wild will be battling for their division this year--book it) who we typically struggle with on the road AND who hadn't lost a home opener in their existence AND who had extra motivation beyond all that to beat us (Brown, measuring stick game--just look at their boards, their press clippings/coach quotes, and crying from their beat reporter) and it still took an illegal kick and few breaks despite their dominance for it to be a tie game for the Wild.

I know, I don't want to bend-but-not-break all year either, but hard for me to get worked up about that result with all the adversity.
