Moser seems to be a bit in a sophomore slump. But to be fair, he had to play on the wrong side today. And he had a few fine plays as well. I think he goes through a time of adjustment, how much risk can he top on his supersolid basic game without harming it too much. He still should be a very important puzzle piece for this team against stronger competition. And he still got icetime till the end of the game unlike some others... Gross, Gerber, Mettler.

I don't know if Gross is slightly injured or what, but he had only about 10 minutes of ice-time. I'm more concerned about him. He's got very good athletical tools, has a good skill set on top of it, but even after 4 years on this level he struggles with decisionmaking and consistency. His role has gotten diminished during the game today. In the end it was Henauer-Pezzullo/Moser who were mostly on the ice when Berni-Aebischer for once weren't.

The latter ones really stand out when it comes to smartness and well- roundedness of their game. If just they had the physical tools of Gross...

If Gross isn't injured, then Paterlini is an even bigger fool than Wohlwend. Gross did play well while Moser didn't. If a defender deserved a benching today it was Moser.

At one point in the third period one Swiss player was slowly getting to the bench holding his face. Maybe this was Gross.

I guess if the 2001 class wasnt so terrible and Rochette hadnt changed Nations this team would look much better overall right now. Hopefully this is just a momentary thing and things will start looking better again on F in a couple of years down the road.

I've read your concerns about next year in the Swiss team thread. I share them to a good degree.

But to be fair with the 01ers, there development curve is kind of okeyish, they were absolutely butchered on the U-16/U-17 level and showed a lot of passion and their best games so far when it really mattered most last year at the U18 WC. We can't question their commitment. And while they are clearly lacking toptalent, there are at least a few guys who are projects but with the raw talent (Jobin, Marchand, Stoffel) and a few solid players like Canova, Schläpfer, Salzgeber to build on.

The 02ers though, they looked much more promising 2 years ago then now. With Rochette's departure and Delemont looking more and more like a second Auguste Impose, the 2 formerly brightest stars are pretty much extinct. Lindemann and Derungs are nice offensive complementary players but can't really drive a line themselves. The development curve of most others isn't too impressive either.

So for next year beside Knak who surely will have a lot of responsibility, I have a hard time seeing any 02 born forward being capable to really lead a line and significantly improve the quality on attack.

The quality on D will be noticeably worse too for next christmas.

It definitely will need a strong team effort to avoid the worst case.

It was anyway a bit weird, how Paterlini wildly shuffled the lines, wasn't it?
Beside the 2 offensive lines around Nussbaumer and Schmid, it seemed everyone shared some icetime with everyone. I missed the line-up before the game, so I tried to catch it during the game, which was harder than expected, especially with the Ds. As the 7th got some early ice-time too plus the early specialteams situations.

I tought Gross played solid, but not much more. He missed a few times the right moment to pass the puck in transition game, worsening his options. It just looks much more natural when and how Berni or Aebischer are sharing the puck.

Tournament homepage has all the lineups and stats if you need to check on anything.

Gross played well I thought. I expect more offense from him and Berni in the upcoming games but he made some good plays and had a solid game without mistakes. Nothing that would deserve a benching. He wears an "A" and is one of the vets on this team. He must be injured. Anything else would be mindboggling.

Anyone know why Nussbaumer didn’t get an assist on that first goal? He shot it and Verboon tipped it.

Yeah, I wondered that, too.
IIHF app credited him with an assist, so I assume that’s the official one to go by. Eliteprospects and IceHockey24 don’t have it though, although they aren’t official stats.

Gross did take that penalty though in the middle of the 3rd...so even if he did get injured or benched afterwards that still wouldn't explain his low icetime. Weird. Could be some sort of sickness though...Paterlini said that they were battling the flu and other stuff after their arrival.
