Three of our best players are out, our best player is out of shape, we are starting a hodgepodge of rookies and AHL'ers. Unless Bob plays lights out.......Sabres 3 Jackets 1

Yeah, I mean why would you put the longest tenured Jacket in the lineup and a solid veteran presence, who is one of the captains and had a great camp, with a rookie heavy/youngster lineup, on the road, when you can put a guy that has one practice with the team under his belt with the organization and was cut by another team. I don't get it either...

Good stuff!

Bob's going to have to bring his 'A' game for a bit for this team to be above .500 I would think.

Other than Horton, it looks like the injured players will be back by Thanksgiving-not that long from now. Horton didn't contribute anything to the team last season, so he's a wash really.

On the bright side, Umberger has been replaced by Hartnell. Some guys who expected to start their seasons in the AHL now have a big time "show me" opportunity with management. At the very least, everyone will get a real good look at what they need to work on when (if) they get sent to the minors. Not a bad thing at all. It also gives these young guys a real taste of the big time and, not unimportantly, the big pay check. The guys on ELCs-Dano and Wennberg- will be making $4,000 per day or so in Columbus and around $2,000 per week when (if) they get sent down. They'll notice the difference:laugh:

I prefer guys that might be able to score and won't simply forecheck the boards and drive possession (or at least won't get killed in driving possession)?

Not really. Rookies, yes. But they may just be ready for the NHL. Everyone else has NHL experience. That's the point of depth in the organization. It's like people forget the players the team used to throw out there.

I was on hold waiting with 97.1 The Fan, waiting to ask a question about Coach Meyer's strategy for the bye week. Then I found out the Blue Jackets open the season in Buffalo tonight. My prediction: Jackets 3, Bills 0. Rick Nash gets the hat trick!

Go Blue Jackets!

Well based on that logic then, Boll is the guy for your lineup.

Cracknell had 0 goals in 16 games last season
Tropp had 2 goals in 44 games
Boll had 1 goal in only 28 games...

It's not all about who can score, I don't care if Boll ever scores again as long as he is aggressive on the forecheck and keeps the other team honest and drops the gloves. That's his job, it's not like we have Mike Bossy sitting in the press box to play him...

I would play just about any player we could over Boll.

Huh? Neither player offers an upgrade to Boll, just different strengths and weaknesses (and Cracknell has barely been on the ice with the other CBJ players). I would think that for this game, what Boll brings to a lineup is going to be valued more than what either of the other two offer.

I know we're all tired of Boller and that he's making more money than he probably should, but damned if he isn't the ultimate "familiarity breeds contempt" poster child.

Baloney. What breeds contempt is bad hockey and the inability to keep control of the puck. I don't know Cracknell but Tropp can at least do that and keep possession for his teammates.

It's odd... until the middle of last year I never felt comfortable about what the CBJ could do. I could hardly relax with any kind of lead. I had no confidence that they wouldn't crumble at any minute.

But, not anymore. I feel this group (even the kids) are scrappers and will pull through. Bob will need to be Bob.

3-1 Good guys.

Yeah, but we've seen this movie before, and in other sports, too. If he produces everyone will forget about it by the time I'm stealing my kid's Halloween candy late at night. If Jackets struggle and he can't match last year's scoring pace, well...

So glad it's hockey again. Couldn't even do the Kings-Sharks last night I was so excited for the CBJ. It's nice to see you guys on the board again. I'll be lurking if you need anything. Here's to a great season!:handclap:
