What do you do with Evans (and to a lesser extent Armia)?

  • Sign at $4M/5years

  • Trade for 2nd rounder

  • Keep his as a rental and see what shakes out before July 1

So people are willing to hold off on trading assets for a slight chance at making the playoffs where we get bounced out like the Maple Leafs while watching guys walk for free in July.... again... like we always used to do?

That's part of how we got to this mess to begin with! Trade Evans. Trade Armia, Savard, Dvorak... Pezzetta if there's interest.

I think we all recognize that we don't need a 6th round pick for Dvorak and have to call up someone from Laval for the rest of the year.

It cannot be more clearly based on what the return might be. Montreal doesn't need more mid to late round picks.

Montreal's not going to trade Dvorak for a conditional pick or future considerations. They're not going to trade Savard for a 4th or 5th.

Playing meaningful games right now and not weakening Laval's depth is worth more than adding C prospects or picks that aren't that valuable to an already deep prospect and pick pol.

Ironic then, that Jake Evans was a 7th round pick. Wasnt Andrei Markov a 7th round pick too? I don't care about Laval.

They don't need more frivolous picks and you should care about Laval.

There's a contract limit, if you acquire more picks, and use all of those picks, you will run into an issue where you can't sign them all. Nor do teams generally have lists long enough to pick players they actually want to draft with that many picks.

So you guys want more of the same. Rinse and repeat.
More of the same what? How long has it been since we've done that?

This is a unique year where we're not absolutely garbage and we can potentially make the playoffs. Yes, playing meaningful hockey is worth more than getting an extra 3rd or a 6th.

You don't want to piss off your team by trading everyone you possibly can when they're in the race. If they do trade Evans/Armia, then fine as long as the return is good. But don't trade them just because you 'have to'. Makes no sense.

I agree. Maybe we don't need the draft pics this year but picks are currency, so package them and move up, push them for next years draft or trade them for players for next season, just use the assets to improve the team in one way or another.

I do wonder if this messaging is HuGo playing hardball to drive up the prices...

We can’t bury the playoff hopes just yet…There’s 2 teams 5 points ahead and both are prone to L streak. Also we have to talk about remaining schedule strength…

Detroit #1 .590
NYR #2 .573
CBJ #4 .565

MTL #26 .537
OTT #32 .526

This is a significant gap especially with Detroit.

I’m not overly optimistic but a push would be cool. Unless we can get a 1st rounder I’m keeping Evan’s, a late 2nd does nothing for us. The 2nd isn’t worth alienating Suzuki and Caufield.
Exactly where I'm at. Even a late 1st is not that enticing to me unless it's in 2026. I would prefer a prospect ready to help right now.

When did he destroy his left knee, as he tore his MCL and ACL last year

It was my impression it was the other knee he injured this time, but looks like it was the same knee in the end. Which is kinda worst I guess, even after being repaired and a long rehab period the "new ACL/MCL" proved to be weak.

Just an FYI a bunch of players go on waivers around this time as they need to be on the AHL roster in order to be eligible for the AHL playoffs, so if you really wanted to you could grab a player for free off of their to replace Dvorak. Downgrade on the dot, almost certainly and a better player pretty everywhere else

Soooooo,

Anyone know how to appeal 'Troll' warning posts?

Is it possible?
Scroll to the bottom of the main page and there might be a way, if not then there's an email and as far as I know they never reverse it, even if it is 100% unjustified, but more of those happened like 10 years ago.

They could always improve some of our picks by doing Dvorak + 5th for a 2027 4th + AHLer or something similar, but yes if there is no real demand for Dvorak we'll just ride with him until his deal is over.
