Greetings all, and welcome to the start of a new NHL season for the Winnipeg Jets. Is everyone excited?
I thought so. Tonight's opponent is the New York Rangers, who have already played two games (2-0-0) and are fresh off of a 7-3 beatdown against the Minnesota Wild last night. Will the Rags be tired after scoring all of those goals, or will the Jets be sluggish after a week off after some down time in Banff? Can Coach Bones get his new team ramped up for the eight-two games ahead, or is the team doomed to repeat the uninspired play of the last couple of years under Coach PauMau?
Will not re-signing Charlie Huddy make the difference on defence?
Will HFJets Hall of Famers Lee Stempniak and Matt Hendricks be a topic of conversation again this year on the Forum?
In any case, I'm with Nate Thompson and I think the Jets are...
...this season and will do well!
A new season can only mean one thing...more GDTs to create! So without further ado, let's get at it...
New York City is known for a lot of things, like the Empire State Building...
The Statue of Liberty (although it's technically in New Jersey)...
Broadway...
Oops, wrong one. There we go...
Times Square...
New York Fries....
Okay, maybe not that one, but New York City is also known for a lot of other things too, like the city’s nickname has an interesting story behind it. A ‘Big Apple’ referred to prizes awarded at horse racing events in the 1920s. Since the term meant “the ultimate” prize or “the best”, many musicians and journalists started referring to New York with this name. In an attempt to boost tourism after some bad press, New York’s tourism board adopted The Big Apple as an official nickname in 1971.
Did you know that honking your horn is illegal in New York City? Crazy, but true! If you have ever sat in the back of a yellow taxi cab in traffic, you know New Yorkers honk their horns. But unless it is an emergency situation, drivers are not allowed to make excessive noise. That law also includes car alarms and the NYPD can issue fines of up to $350 for offenders.
Farting in a church is also illegal in New York City, which could result in a misdemeanor. This is due to a law stating a person is guilty of disruption or disturbance of a religious service, funeral, burial or memorial service “when he or she makes unreasonable noise or disturbance while at a lawfully assembled religious service, funeral, burial or memorial service.” In this case, I would just...
Did you know New York City was the first capital of the United States and not Washington DC? The New York Capitals hockey team doesn't sound right to me...
New York City’s Federal Reserve Bank has the largest gold storage in the world. The vault, which holds more than 7,000 tons of gold bars or roughly $90 billion dollars, is 80-feet below ground.
Attention birdwatchers! There are more than just pigeons in New York City. In fact, 275 of the 800 known North American bird species have been spotted in New York’s Central Park.
Also in Central Park, it can cost over $289,000 for a one-year hot dog stand permit. Now that's a lot of relish if you ask me...
Oh, that's right, there's an actual game to talk about, sorry... You know me, I tend to wander off topic a bit...The Winnipeg Jets are going with these guys for their opening night roster...
The Rangers look like they will be going with these guys tonight...
Forwards (14): Sammy Blais, Ryan Carpenter, Filip Chytil, Barclay Goodrow, Dryden Hunt, Kaapo Kakko, Vitali Kravtsov, Chris Kreider, Alexis Lafrenière, Artemi Panarin, Ryan Reaves, Vincent Trocheck, Jimmy Vesey, Mika Zibanejad
Defensemen (7): Adam Fox, Libor Hajek, Zac Jones, Ryan Lindgren, K'Andre Miller, Braden Schneider, Jacob Trouba
Goaltenders (2): Jaroslav Halak, Igor Shesterkin
Let's give Jacob Trouba and the rest of the Rags a warm welcome by making them feel at home with a nice Bronx cheer tonight!
Go Jets Go!
