Brendan Gallagher just said in his end of season presser he is done with the Canadiens. Was healthy scratch for most of the playoff.

He is 34 year old, one year left to his contract. 6,5M$ cap hit.

Which team be interested in him? Great veteran. Canadiens probably need to attach a pick to sweeten the deal.

Yeah needs a title update. He hasn't requested a trade. He looked broken knowing his time with the Habs was likely over.

His heart is still there but his body is breaking and he cant keep pace. Feels like he'll end up on a young team with cap space, excellent leader/good for culture building still. Probably Vancouver since its his other home.

No, but one year of Gallagher + upgrading on the wing for cheap would. Brazeau in a vacuum is worth a 2nd with his contract and production last year.

I think the point of trading Gallagher is that he doesn't have a spot on the roster, not that they need an upgrade on him.

Didn't really frame it like he wants out.
He framed it as "I had conversations with Marty and know my time here is over, I've loved it but I can see the writing on the wall."...."I want to keep playing, so I'm going to sit down with my agent and my family and figure out what comes next for us".

That's the most politically correct way of saying, the organization has moved on and I need to make my peace with that and move on as well.

Habs will just buy him out.
Easy decision:

2nd rounder is incredibly unlikely. Depending on what other moves are out there, he may just be bought out.

I wouldn't say a 2nd is incredibly unlikely. The Islanders paid basically a 2nd and 3rd to dump Palat's deal earlier this season and the Stars paid a 2nd to dump Dumba at $3.75 million last off-season.

I think it will probably be a 3rd just because of how much the cap is going to spike, but a 2nd wouldn't be surprising either. A 2nd has been the cost for the past 2 off-seasons to move guys similar to Gallagher.

Easy decision:

Idk I'd rather use a 3rd rounder to get $6.5 million in cap space than but him out to get only $3.16 million in cap space along with a $666k cap penalty next year.
