Gagner to Pto

Are we doing another one of those stupid two games in one day things this pre season? Cause this would make sense for roster requirements for that.

Anyway good dude to have around the room and maybe push the kids a bit in camp for a roster spot.
We do have 2 b2bs. We will likely have the majority of the prospects sent to the AHL camp before the 2nd b2b. Another body to play during the b2bs.

Hopefully just to meet preseason veteran minimums. We have a lot of prospects who are more than ready for the NHL, and I'd far prefer developing them than throwing ice time to an aging mediocrity.
Not opposed to signing him to a deal and letting him play in Chicago though. Could be useful as a veteran presence there, if he’s willing.

Just an uninformed hunch but I don’t think Gagner’s looking for an AHL assignment out of this. He’s been sent down before so it’s not beneath him, but he’s a long time NHL’er and maybe taking his last shot at the big leagues. I suspect he’s here because he thinks he can take a spot on this roster, and in the event that he doesn’t make the cut I’d more expect him to move on than take an AHL contract.

I also don't think we have any prospect that's a lock to make the roster. It doesn't hurt to have someone as insurance that can push them. Hopefully one or two of them grabs the opportunity. If not, Chicago isn't beneath them.

Also, listened to Chris Johnston's podcast today and he confirmed Gagner and even listed us among teams that might still poke around at another forward.

also listened to that podcast today. Johnston said JVR was still talking to a few teams, wonder if the Canes are one of them. Hoffman maybe? Those are the only forwards not yet signed to a PTO that have some modicum of scoring ability and are not grinders. They have enough grinders signed already.

If those 2 are the only options along with Gagner, I’d hope they just go with a rookie, but I also agree, I don’t see them doing that unless they’re absolutely forced to. They may give the younguns more of a shot this season, but I still think RBA would much prefer a vet to fill any spot they have open.

I wonder if they’re sniffing around a player like Robertson from TOR too.

Yes, it seemed JVR would be the likely candidate of the PTOs remaining. But even though he was talking about PTOs when we were mentioned as one of the teams sniffing around forwards, I would guess that we're sniffing around for any forward in that league minimum area if it's the right fit. A guy like Robertson could fit and they talked about him earlier in the pod. There are some rumors he'd still be a possibility to move.

I would be surprised if we added JVR or other. We targeted speed and skating in our FAs. Most of the guys that are left arent that. Granted we still have staal and kk butit would seem we would limit the issue to them.
