Im thinking that I hope he pulls a groin for a few weeks to keep the cost down lolso what are folks thinking for a new contract for him? scoring at a 72 pt pace after last night.
idk if he's hitting 70+ pts a couple years away from UFA, i see him in the 7m range. When I was doing some capfriendly rosters last year I'd typically give him a 8 year 50 mil (6.25 AAV) assuming the cap would go up another 5 mil or so.
Anywhere above 6 and below 7 seems to make sense if we are going long term?
if it comes down to 7mx2 or 7.5mx8, just move a contract if needed to make it work in my view. 0.5M/year to have him essentially forego UFA is better from the Jets POV. but it's not my moneyI keep forgetting that he still an RFA. That is massive for the Jets. They could bridge him at 6.5x1 or 7x2 if things get really tight next season, but I'd much rather see him signed to an 7,5x8 contract for the full term. I also realize that this is probably just wishful thinking. The guy is going to get paid.
I honestly think he ends up getting traded to a team like Philly in the offseason for 1st, prospect and forward. Thinking he's gonna want a better climate and a team that may hand him lots of money. For some reason I see it being Philadelphia though.
I also low-key think he's a bit overrated.

Some have Chevy's best moves have been giving guys like Helle, Ehlers, Schief and JoMo long term deals before they really break out. Those guys ended up underpaid through their primesI'd be trying to bridge him. I wavy to see if he can be somewhat durable before a big investment.
I also think he's more of a great complimentary guy than a driver. He's probably one of those guys who won't give you bang for buck.
.
Dint get me wrong I love him but I think there's significant risk they're
The other big factor here is his girlfriend is from California or may want to play somewhere warmer. Not the best idea if you want to play in the NHL because anybody who can play in the NHL should just play no matter where unless they've earned that right to pick wherever they want which not lots of players do. IN this case Vilardi hasn't.His PP production certainly overshadows the fact that he isn't producing that greatly 5on5... that is a fact for sure. Could lead to him being overvalued, agree. Not saying he is, but I get the argument.
I haven't thought about it, yet but you might have a point in selling him this offseason with his personal value at the peak to the highest bidder overpaying based on his great scoring numbers + one full healthy season with them signing him for 8M or so afterwards just to see him drop of in production because he isn't fed by Scheifele/Connor/Morrissey/Ehlers PP anymore.
If he wasn't a RFA I'd agree based on how good his contract is right now.Sounds like a stupid idea.
