Gabriel Landeskog participates in full Avs practice for first time in 995 days

Then you tell the player “we aren’t sure about your health so we are shutting you down until next season when we can get cap compliant”

The NHLPA wouldnt allow this.

They should just have a neutral NHL affiliated doctor/committee give approval for LTIR relief and duration of relief. Duration can be extended if approved by the nhl doctor. Thats the only way to make it harder to exploit and not crushing for the team. Teams and players can still choose to sit out/not activate, but if the NHL doctor doesnt approve LTIR relief, the team needs to start dumping cap.

Why should people be rooting for this guy if they hate the avs?

I know there’s been animosity between the Blues/Avs, but man, I hope this goes well for him.

I’ve always been a fan of his game, and was very bummed the Avs reached a deal with him when it was looking like he’d reach UFA. There was that rumor that Armstrong was going to go all-in on getting him to STL, but alas here we are.

I’m curious how his game looks after so much time off, but I think the emotional aspect of him being back in the lineup will be huge for Colorado. I was already excited to watch the expected round one matchup against Dallas, but this would add a whole extra layer to it.

Oh, I agree. I just though it was common knowledge what he was battling with. Or an attempt at sarcastic humor by the poster.

I am a NHL but not an Avs fan and I was not aware of the specifics. Just knew he was obviously battling something that was career threatening due to how much hockey he has missed. Happy for the guy.

Very happy for Landy. Really wanted him the year we drafted RNH, but we needed a center so I understood it.

Have no idea what he's going to look like when he comes back, but to miss as much time as he has it is good to see his trying to make the comeback.
