Gaborik vs. Nash

All this argument confirms to me is that the New York Rangers have 1 elite player on their roster. Henrik Lundqvist.

Truly elite positional players do not get shut down in the playoffs. The injury conspiracy theory is one thing, but I've seen a few posters throw their hands up saying they're double-teaming Nash and thats all there is to it. You think the league's elite dont get double-teamed too?

Then I guess Alexander Ovechkin isn't elite either since he's been shut down as well.

I've been terribly disappointed with Nash so far in the POs, but saying he cannot be elite because he was shut down rings false to me.

An elite player can be shut down for short streches, but cannot in a larger sample. A playoff series is too small a sample to prove/disprove anything.

Gaborik is softer than Nash.

Nash (although has sucked so far in PO) is a very good 1 on 1 player. Gaby couldn't deke.

Ovechkin has 61 points in 57 playoff games. Nash has 4 points in 10 games.

Sure, its a small sample size, but hes got a ways to go.

Nash is clearly playing hurt, no? That's what I believe at least...

He doesn't have that powerful stride that he usually uses to get behind/through the D and ultimately get to the net. He's just slower. His hands look fine. To me, it seems like a lower body thing.

Nash had a better season.

Gaborik's had a better career. Nash brings more assets to the table in terms of size, stick handling, etc, but he has never been the finisher that Gaborik is. Gaborik has produced more than Nash playing with equally underwhelming talent (42 goals 86 points with Christensen/Prospal).

Although, at times, Nash seems pretty one dimensional too. People said Gaborik would disappear for stretches, we've seen the same thing with Nash. He was no where to be seen in the beginning of the season, and through certain stretches he was invisible. In addition, Nash's big move is cutting in from the half circle in front of the net and turning his body on the rush to have his back face the defender. This is what he does over, over and over again. When a player uses the same move that much, he's fairly one dimensional.

Nash had a solid 44 game season with us. But he wasn't even our best player (Stepan).

Until Nash can produce something in the post season, I'd take Gaborik over him every time. Again, I know Gaborik wasn't great in the post season, but a lot of people on here are throwing around that Nash is hurt and that's the reason he hasn't produced. Even when Gaborik was hurt, against the Capitals, he was able to score 3 goals 4 assists with one of his goals being a triple overtime game winner.

When I can see some big goals out of Nash, and when Nash can score 40 goals with us multiple times, I'll say I'd take him over Gaborik.

Gaborik was criminally underrated by our fan base, as if we always have a player that can finish top-3 and top-5 in goals with us for two seasons.

Moving forward, I have no idea who will be better. Nash was better this season. Gaborik was returning from major shoulder surgery. Will Gaborik be able to bounce back from that? If so, I'd take him. If not, Nash will clearly be the better player moving forward.

D) Brassard is better than than Dubinsky/Anisimov.

I'll say that Brassard is better than those two players right now, because he is producing.

But in what world, overall, is Brassard better than those two? What has Brassard ever done (outside of this current playoff series) to suggest he is better?

Anisimov is 24, has had a 40 point season.

Dubinsky is 27 and had four consecutive 40+ point seasons, with one being 54 points. Despite being scrutinized for not scoring this season, he still managed to have 20 points in 29 games with a +2.

Brassard is 25, and has had two 40 point seasons.

So, I'm just wondering, outside of this single playoff series, what has Brassard done to suggest that he is a better player than either of them? This has draft pick hype written all over it.

When Gaborik wasn't scoring he really wasn't doing much.

Regarding Nash... it seems like forever ago he was making an impact.... but if you think back to midseason, even in stretches where he wasn't scoring, he was dominating games even without putting the puck in the net. He's a more complete threat. I don't know why he can't seem to get it going right now but I sure hope he wakes up for the Boston series. If he and Richards, or he and Kreider or something, can get it going and scoring at a PPG streak, this team could beat Pittsburgh.

Anyway, I don't see how you could take Gaborik over Nash at this point in time.
