You're right. This game does define the whole season. My concern is that this team has a very bad habit of coming out flat and blowing important games. And if they do the same thing tonight, then Hynes excuse of how high the stakes are means nothing. For a game with such high stakes, you'd think that yesterday's practice wouldn't have been optional. It should have been mandatory.

The Ducks aren't an easy win. The Flames are fired up and could win their last two games. And we could end up either playing the Jets or missing the postseason all together. That all goes away if these guys come out playing like their breezers are on fire with the best lineup we can throw out there. And I think an optional practice plus sitting Buium is just Hynes shooting himself in the foot.

Is this an endorsement of Jon Merrill by you, or do you have zero confidence that Buium is any good? Or do you think what the Wild have been doing lately is just working so well that you can't dare break it up?

Playoff checks aren't a thing. Losing in the first round nets each player less than $20,000. They're getting paid their regular salary through the end of the season regardless of what happens tonight or in the next couple weeks.
