I don't think the Avs can ignore the lack of talent on the back end any longer. Middleton has given everything you could expect out of him, but he's an AHL defenseman. Malinski has taken a huge step back, and Manson has been horrible too. They're riding Toews, Makar, and Girard way too hard right now.

Avs are not a contender. It's way too early to claim they can't win a round though. Lesser teams have won playoff series, sometimes all the way to the cup finals.

Wouldn't spend that much futures on pure rentals this season. They won't win a cup anyway, keep most assets that are even left for the offseason.

I think the posts beat us last night.

If one or two (or even 3!) of those goals go in during the first period - totally different game. We lost all our momentum in the second period and the door was wide open for van to bust it open in the third.

The thing about Avs not being a contender... Yes and no. I think we all remember the cup run in 2022, and sometimes (well, constantly TBH) forget how dominant that team was in the whole salary cap era context. If you are comparing what we have now to that, you will always be disappointed. Much worse teams have won the cup in recent times. Much worse.

Also, look around the league. Who really are contenders? The only teams that have played well and impressive hockey throughout the season are Winnipeg and Washington. Maybe they will meet in the finals. With how the playoffs usually play out in this sport, I think you can still take the field with better odds.

So in this regard, you can absolutely be pissed off and annoyed with how this team is playing right now. But I'm not going as far as "we are not contenders" or "maybe it's better if we miss the playoffs". If you look at it through this lense, there are only two contenders in the league right now. 16 make the playoffs. We are not that much worse than the other 14.

ah classic doom and glooming after a loss. 2 clean sheet wins long forgotten.
I swear some of you would only be satisfied if we won every single game.
Most of us don't care that we lost, it's how they lose games this year.

We don't play well and the other team team is just better that night, we simply throw games away.

Last night we played a great first and were simply unlucky to not be winning going into intermission. Instead of building on that they come out in the 2nd flat as can be, give up a semi fluky goal, and then proceeded to quit against a team without their best player and a shitty goalie that has been letting in beach balls this year. Their will to compete last night broke after Demko made few nice saves on one shift. So what the guy made a few saves, you keep up that effort one would have gone in. But they quit instead.

This isn't the first game l like this where their effort and attitude was poor. That's why people get frustrated. It's a consistent issue with this team.

Tour de force performance by Miles Wood last night.

Every penalty he took (23 PIM!) was needless. He got his ass handed to him all night (on the ice) and then couldn't control his emotions. 3 points in 21 games people.

Well, against 2 pretty bad tems (Blues/Flyers), one good period was enough to beat those teams.
Tonight, against a slighly better one, but them missing their best player, it wasn't. That 3rd period
effort was, well, no effort at all. And that is concerning.

This team isn't going anywhere. Even with a returning Nuke after the 4-Nations-Cup, it's not going to get
"much" better. Sure, Nuke is an important part and he's been missed, but he can't be the main reason we
win/lose games. On some nights (quite a few actually), it feels like they are not even trying. No fire, no passion, no fight, no nothing. Just floating around and hoping for the best. And that's not enough.

I'm a huge Betsy fan, still think he's the best coach the Avs ever had, but even i think that maybe, just maybe,
it's time for a change.

The roster we ice should be better, waaaay better. But they aren't. We have two of the world best players on our roster, and all we are is mediocre. And that should no be our standart. So, who's to blame here? I don't f*cking know. All i know is that THIS season, and for the first time in nearly a decade, i lost faith and stopped caring. And that's a shame!

You have to be pretty f***ing ignorant to not view these games through the lens of what we've seen all season long. That's where the doom and gloom comes from. Inconsistency, lack of scoring, constant defensive breakdowns, struggling to stay afloat within a wildcard race...there are legitimate reasons as to why so many posters are getting frustrated and tuning out.

This game really checked off all the marks on why the Avs have been a frustrating bunch this year.

Awful bottom pairing, invisible 2C and thus 2nd line, overpassing perimeter play and absolutely no adjustments by Bednar in later half of the game. We also have Colton and Wood cosplaying as dumb and dumber. Our goalie continues to give us a chance to win every night. Can't help but be pissed off at the sad state of this team. Cmac can only do so much.

Well that was a massive joke of a game.

Those THREE f***ing posts in the first basically did us in and the fact that demko plays like shit against the rest of the league but plays like ken dryden against us.

I keep seeing the same thing with that canucks team that I saw earlier in the year. Since Foote got there, he's got ALL those players giving sneaky hooks, bullshit cross-checks and slashes and they just keep getting away with it all night long.

Past the mid-way point, the Avs were sick of it, lost their cool and lost the game. Apparently, cross-checking isn't a penalty anymore so might as well just cross check everyone all the time. That's what they did. That's how they scored that first goal. Parssinen has the puck along the side of the boards and then the vancouver player "made a strong play" - yeah, right he cross-checked him to the ice and stole the puck and went the other way and they scored.

When Wood got his fighting major, that stooge forbort held on to his stick for like 10 FULL SECONDS until Wood got fed up and started throwing them. Where were the f***ing reftards on that one ?

Bednar shit the bed again. In a game like that, especially since vancouver played the exact same way the last time you played them, you have your team PREPARED to match them because you know it's going to be bullshit. In the third, he didn't even try Necas on the 2nd line... it's like he doesn't know how to do anything else but just keep top-stacking his lineup.

Yes haha, in fact I saw someone say they felt this was one of the most frustrating seasons in all of Avs history (what a joke lol)

The therapy sessions are extending into the next day, for some.

Necas definitely needs to be tried out as a 2C. Has all the tools for it.
Probably the most frustrating part for me. I think it's clear he needs to be tried before the deadline to give CMac an idea of what he's working with. This game was the perfect opportunity to give it a shot, yet Bednar just keeps beating a dead horse

Definitely a game that exposed all of our weaknesses at once. Which can be a blessing if it's addressed properly. At the same time, it appears that there are too many to address to make us a serious contender this year. Who knows, stranger things have happened and I still think the West playoff picture is pretty wide open.

The Avs are 8-7-2 in 2025.
Exactly this. They are a mid to bad team that gives BS effort more often than not. The work ethic/desire to compete on this team is garbage. They've become complacent. You think trading 96 would have woke them up, but it did nothing. That means the next thing to go has to be the coaches. This team needs something other than Jared never says anything too negative Bednar who continues to coddle these idiots.
