Great effort by the boys being so shorthanded. Will take another game of team helping each other to steal one in Minny.
Let's go Binner.
Let's go Binner.
Winning a playoff game against a 113 point team with only 2 of your top 6 D men is absolutely remarkable. We were white knuckling in the 3rd period and clinging to a lead. I'd have liked to score a 4th earlier in the game to release some stress, but Fleury was very good and we did a great job llimiting chances when Minnesota pushed. That is the most impressive 60 minute effort I've seen out of this team since June of 2019. Maybe not the best we've played, but the most impressive given the decimation of the blue line.
This team showed an enormous amount of heart yesterday and Berube pushed all of the right buttons. I'm not really interested in debating whether Husso deserved to lose the net or not. Berube knows this team, made a decision and it turned out to be 100% correct. Binner played very well and the team showed up to play in front of him. How/why we got to here and whether or not it is fair we got to this point are all irrelevant. What this means beyond Tuesday is irrelevant. What this means for Doug Armstrong this summer is currently irrelevant. Binner did everything we could ask of him and the team did everything they could be asked to do in front of him. He'll be in net on Tuesday and we'll figure out Thursday after that.
Faulk and Parayko were absolute monsters. They combined for 61:47 in a game that didn't go to OT. They held the RD3 to 3:08 of ice time AND had multiple shifts where they were out there together. That is incredible. Then factor in that neither one of them were with their normal partners and they still finished a combined +3. Ridiculous. I don't disagree with the 3 stars being Perron/Kyrou/Binner, but these two were the backbone last night. We're only a week into the playoffs, but they are the only two guys who have hit the 30 minute mark in a regulation game so far. They can't do that every game. We need a body or two back to ease that burden. But in a near-must-win game these two guys stepped up enormously.
Ryan O'Reilly is a beast. I don't care what the regular season stats say and I don't care that he looked off for stretches of this season. I don't care if he was battling long term effects of COVID, was pacing himself to be ready for playoffs or was simply in extended slumps. He's the best player on the roster.
Kyrou was buzzing yesterday and that 2nd goal was a fantastic individual effort. Games like that are how you earn the reputation as a gamebreaker. Minnesota was doing a great job of bending-but-not-breaking against a Blues offense that was coming at them in waves. They have scouted us well and are doing an excellent job of getting stick into lanes to disrupt our passes. We had to work our asses off as a 5 man unit to scrape together a 2-1 lead midway through a game where the ice was tilted in our favor. And then Kyrou just beat their coverage by himself. He's not going to do that every night and he often isn't going to be a contributor on the nights where he doesn't do that. But nights/plays like that are why you accept the flaws to his game. Just like that, he's tied for 2nd on the team in playoff goals and has accounted for 25% of the team's total playoff goals.
Absolutely amazing crowd yesterday. The clips I've watched really don't capture how loud that building was. The building erupted for Binner when he got introduced pregame. The building erupted for Charles Glenn doing the anthem. The roar was very loud for all 4 goals, but it was deafening on the 3rd goal when Kyrou interrupted the towel man's count to make it 3-1. And you could barely hear Binner's 1st star interview. I felt (and had) a nervous energy before the game started, but it had translated to pure energy for player intros.
We're down 4 starting D men, we have just 4 players who have scored a goal, and both goalies have started during the series. If you had told me all that a week ago, I'd have assumed we were either swept or down in the series 3-1. But we gutted out a win last night on an absolutely incredible team effort. Whatever happens this week, no one should question the heart of this team.
Was at my brother-in-laws for the game, and he doesn't have Bally's
the game was on TBS and their coverage SUCKS
how f-ing hard is it to show a replay of a penalty or a good play and then analyze it
blah blah blah about something else or go to a commercial until the play starts again and not talk about it at all
when they got around to showing a replay it was fine, but it was almost like they couldn't be bothered unless they could show 16 angles and talk about it for 5 minutes
Parayko/MikkolaIf 4 and 41 are players for game 5, we have to play the kid again right?
I think it comes down to Mikkola vs Rosen, or we roll 7 D again. Which I’m totally on board with considering bort and leddy probably won’t be 100%.. plus Faulk and Parayko just logged huge minutes
Yes I think 11 forwards and 7D are the way to roll again at least for Game 5.Parayko/Mikkola
Faulk/Leddy
Bortz/Rosen
Peru
Play 11 F again
I really feel like an adjustment is in order for our offensive approach. With the way the Wild are defending, and especially with the volume and quality of rebounds Fleury is giving up, I feel like we need more of a "Hitch Hockey", funnel pucks to the net approach. If the opponent is taking away your passing lanes, the natural antidote is to shoot more.... ...
Im not sure how relevant the 7th d was. Even with scandella getting hurt early in game, we chose to only play santini a measly 3 minutes. . However it might be better idea for next game if bortz and leddy are healthy as we just sit santini and let everyone else play.Sure bud, let's stick with Husso and keep spotting the Wild 2 goals to start the game.
