This was before anyone knew who he was. I can't remember how Steve Vai found him, but Devin sang on the 'VAI' album they did in the early 90's. I was working promotions for Musicland (nationwide music store back in the day) and they invited us to the CD release listening party for it. Both Devin and Steve were there. Both are very tall. They were both nice. Pretty sure Vai was high as a kite, lol. He was pretty spaced out.
