Yeah, Avs might be the most conservative organization in sports when it comes to coaching personnel. The Vatican has had more turnover than them.

I don’t see a full gutting unless they miss the playoffs entirely. Then yeah, they’re ALL gone, even Parkkila won’t survive that. If they have anything less than a deep playoff run, then we might see assistants swapped out.
Don’t think it’s just the Avs. It’s Kroenke. Malone is carried by Joker and keeps his job. Not that he’s an issue but McVay seems to have had a longer leash with the Rams than most. Arteta has stuck around despite massive bottle jobs and somehow winning less trophies than ETH. He also kept Wenger around for a long time for some pretty modest to underwhelming success for a club of Arsenal’s stature and resources. It’s a weird pattern with KSE teams

So couple trends I have seen for the whole season:

-PP strategy is obviously scouted by other teams. More movement or something is needed. Just passing isnt gonna cut and changing personel isnt gonna make it work.
-And oh boy the pp backpass at the blueline is killing us most of the times, just dont do it for the love of god.
-I wanna vomit every time when I see Avs pressuring on the opposition end by sending 2 guys from opposite sides and no middle coverage. Every time its an easy pass to middle and 4-3 to our end.
-Too many shots are going outside the net, even from the top guys, its pathetic at this point.
-When passing for 1 timer its usually missplaced or too difficult and blocked.

And the most obvious struggle from everyone is the freaking movement of responsibility to score to the next guy by passing to someone else, and usually in the end the pass will fail. Just shoot the puck even from difficult places.

Mostly I have no issue on the roster or with staff. More than ever now when we have actual goalies. Its just that the monkey in the Avs back is growing bigger and bigger. The pressure to succeed seems to overcome them at the moment and its so visible in the rink.

Just freaking relax and do what you are capable....

Gonna be honest, I fell asleep like 5 minutes into this one and don't regret it at all. I've gotten to the acceptance phase that this is just what the team is. A bubble team fighting for a wildcard spot. Hopefully I'm wrong and this flu or whatever is really hampering them down but I just don't see it. Save us Coach Q!

I do get a kick out of all the "Sky if falling" posts from the usual suspects.

They have the 5th besst record in the league over the last month. Despite the PP having a truly awful slump, and despite playing probably half of those games with Georgiev/Annunen in the net.

They're fine. The goaltending is clearly already so much better then it was 2 weeks ago. I 100% guarantee this team will go on start some crazy 12-2-1 run here in the next couple of weeks and all of a sudden we'll all forget about this random loss in the middle of December and start talking about the Cup run again.
Yup.. time to touch some grass for many here.

I can't help but think this team is seriously underperforming right now. The injury excuse can only get you so far, and we've gotten most of the bodies back. Imo Nichushkin looks like a shell of himself right now, not nearly the dominant player we've seen in recent years. Is he hurt?

Still think the team needs a captain.....the Landy stuff needs to be resolved....players need to be called out by their peers in a "captain-like" way and there is not a captain in the room to do it. I still think this team will come around. I know several will say BS....there are plenty of leaders in that room...but what type...Barkers? Passive Aggressive types? Constructive criticism leadership from a peer is important even among professional athletes. The elephant in the room then is who gets the "C".

We want the 4x Stanley Cup winning coach (1 as assistant to our 96 run).
"We"? I dont want that guy around this team.

He could be the f***ing Harry Houdini of Ice-Hockey-Coaches, i still say "no".....

Still think the team needs a captain.....the Landy stuff needs to be resolved....
This. Either there is allready a plan in place and we go for a "Stoner/Kucherov", then tell the players that help is on the way....

Or, and thats what i start to believe more and more, there is a serious setback with Landy.

Who said Vancouver was going through the flu?
Vancouver fan here.

Tocchet had said the Canucks had the flu going around before their last game before this Avs game, an embarrassing, lackadaisical effort ending in a 5-1 loss to the Bruins, but I don't know how many players were affected. Two guys were out of the lineup because of it including Lankinen, which is why Demko was playing his second game in a row despite the Canucks wanting to ease him in slowly from the injury that had kept him out of the lineup from part way through the 2024 playoffs until last week.

Agreed.

Ivan puck watched and covered nobody for the last 15 seconds leading up to the goal. His man got the first and second chances in front.

de Haan slow as molasses coming out of the corner to the front and didn’t get to his man for the third whack and goal.
Just finished watching that crap game this morning - glad I didn't stay up for it.

Figured I'd respond to this.

Watch it again :

Dehaan is already on the guy with the puck in the corner. Ivan is trying to help while also positioning himself to cut off the pass to the guy behind the net and then you have Girard who starts off in the right position in front of the net but then drifts off towards the side of boards and tries to intercept the pass.

At the 0:05 mark, if Girard leaves the front of the net to skate towards the guy who has the puck leaving the slot completely open, when you look at where Ivan is when he decides to do that, it's certainly a lot to ask of Ivan to cover for him.

This team, as currently constructed, just isn't very good. They aren't objectively horrible, but this is a team more in that 8-14 range of quality than top 5. The depth isn't there and shoehorning guys into roles they aren't fit for isn't sustainable. Especially when Bednar, who I certainly don't think is a bad coach, is a one trick pony on his systems and techniques. Given how this team is built, they will go on heaters at different points and then go cold too. This is just like the Penguins in 2019, some absolutely world class, elite players who are trying to prop up a weak roster and a coach who is too stubborn (or unable) to change tactics.

Nah...... Tocchat came up with a pretty good game plan. There was a lot of Adam Foote style hockey being played out there against the Avs. Vancouver has a big defensive corp and some forwards that pretty much lead with their fore arms every hit. That's not Bednar's game so the Avs are unable to adjust.

When Miller caught MacKinnon and knocked him down behind the Avs net, I knew it was going to be a slam and bang event. Avs puck mishandles were constant and they were waiting on every puck for it to settle down, reaching back for it, like skates set in mortar. They couldn't play their speed game because conditions did not allow it.....I've skated on Vancouver ice in this condition. It does not allow for a speed game to be executed.
Literally this just reads as one big excuse.

Their coach had a good plan, why didn't our coach have a good plan?

The ice was bad so we couldn't play a speed game. Bad ice happens, you have to adjust, something we are incapable of doing.

The fact is this is an extremely lazy team, that is poorly coached and gets by on the nights that everything goes perfect for our superstars. If it doesn't go perfectly for 29, 96 and 8 we look like a JV high school team.

Lol yep. Another excuse. That's all it ever is. Excuses. The team had played like dog shit all year. And we just constantly make up excuse after excuse. They suck. That's all it is. They are a bad team that's lazy as f*** and cares absolutely nothing about winning.

It's a bad team, not sure what's hard to understand about this.
Bad team that doesn't care about winning? Well if that's what you think I'm not even gonna argue. Enjoy watching games.

This is because we are relying on 4th line cast offs from other teams, or guys who were not high end AHLers to fill the whole bottom 6 and pairing. Scrubs, especially effort guys, can play above their heads for a while... eventually though they can't maintain the effort or the league just catches up. Kiviranta, Ivan, Middleton, Kylington, Kelly, Wagner, etc wouldn't be regulars on most NHL teams. Yet we're seeing 5-7 of these guys every night.

Then it doesn't help when there are clear locker room issues, a guy who can't perform off the powder, natural slumps, age, etc.

Beaten by a team whose fans were chanting Kiefer Sherwood's name might be the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen. Relocate us to the Yukon immediately.

Not to split hairs, but I disagree with both Kylington and Kelly. I think they both would have a regular spot on most NHL teams, albeit likely reduced in comparison to what they receive(d) currently with the Avs
