All the dmen played well. Chillin'ton looked like a ragdoll in the 1st period, but picked it up after that. Cale and Sammy were obviously the clutchest of them all, even if they would've not had any points.

The 1st period kinda reminded me of the playoff series agains the Stars last season, as Nate and pretty much everyone else got shut down hard. The first shift of the 2nd period showed me instantly, that they were going to improve and boy what a period they had indeed.

Kovy and Kelly looked good with limited minutes and I loved how Wood didn't have any of Tkachuk's shit, getting him out of the play for a couple of minutes during an important part of the game. I'll also take those dirty goals any time and the 5th Avs goal was a beauty.

I guess George didn't look as poised as he has been the past few games, but I think Bob didn't look that good either.

Calling him solid is a stretch. The first goal was a bad one, I don't care how much he was screened. The second one was questionable. Third, great direct. No chance. Fourth, again, not his fault.

That's still one softie and a questionable one. We f***ing can't have that.
What is questionable on the second goal? He stopped the shot, the puck randomly deflected off his shoulder in a way, that Barkov could put it away before he could turn. That goal was on Manson, first for causing the turnover that lead to the whole situation, then for failing to making it hard for Barkov to score by either pushing him away or tying his stick.

Anyway, generally good performance from everyone, especially happy for Drouin and Nichuskin for getting into stride after missing the start of the season. And Sammy G played pretty well too, which is nice after seeing him heavily criticized around here and people asking him to get traded in recent times. If we get at least average goaltending, we have depth to beat everyone, even if MacK or Makar are not scoring, And it shall be even better once we get Landy and Colton back.

I dunno if it's possible to score 7 goals against the defending champs and also in the same game have it look apparent that the team and its defence won't be able to overcome big boy hockey in the playoffs.

Okay...so I wanted to realistically see who might be available to upgrade at goalie. So I went to capwages website. Opened a list of active players. Limitied it by those whose contract end in 2025 and play goalie. Then sorted it by save percentage and I think I found our answer....

I hate everything about capwages website except how they display the team cap info.
That list has quite many guys who have already signed extensions. Also RFAs. Here is a list of current UFAs for next summer from puckpedia (no dark mode from what I could see, sorry).

The second goal wasn't awful, and it came right after two brutal giveaways on that shift - one by Nichushkin at center ice, and another one by Manson on the goal line. Give the puck away like that, it's going to end up in the back of your net.

Missed most of the game, saw highlights, great win. First goal on Georgiev looked weak as hell but he was mostly fine after that.

Manson got a lot of shit after that game, game score certainly wasn’t good but since I didn’t see I can’t really say one way or the other.

Was at the game. Felt great watching the boys get the W in person.

To echo what Tkachuk said, it felt like the Panthers didn’t play their style of game with relentless pressure and forecheck.

Sammy G was excellent and consistently did what he needed to all night.

One weird thing that stuck out to me was that after Vlad’s goal he went straight to the bench without going down the line or any celebration by anybody. Not sure if that’s because it was an empty netter in a 7-3 game or because the team hasn’t really embraced or forgiven Nuke’s actions from the past 2 playoffs. Wouldn’t blame them for not forgiving him, but I’m hoping it’s the former and that there’s no lingering issues there.

Based on how they played the first game Nuke came back I feel like there's some resentment... Idk how there couldn't be. No matter how good he can be there's just no trust I would imagine.
