Johansson in OT, that was a smart one...

Wild don't deserve more than a point out of this anyway.

Gus got screened by his own players on both goals.
What a stinker. We lose to the worst teams in the league.
On to the next 2 home games, thursday vs Habs then Stars on saturday.
See you later folks.

I'm still trying to come to terms with this, I'll worry about the Spurgeon play and the loss tomorrow
He should have been one of the last guys to be out there. When you can only get 2 forwards out there at a time, you have a LOAD of other options before his name should come up on the list.

Boldy the new 1C, between Kap and Zucc. And they scored.

Seriously, Hynes doesn't trust Rossi, this continues to be a problem.

What about long term?
Time will tell. It's only been a small sample size with Celebrini, but he really has my attention.

That's a coaching problem....not a player problem. Hynes is being a #$@! about it. Rossi is one guy who has repeatedly shown improvement. Yet Hynes continues to hump Mojo's leg.

Yeah, I see no issue putting our two best forwards together (Kap+Boldy) when we need a goal late.

I guess I'm more confused about why they'd have a third, lesser winger there with them when our third and fourth best forwards are both centers and our fifth best forward has historically played a lot of center here. But hey it worked out.

Rossi was sort of mediocre the last few games. He wasn't awful, but he certainly wasn't good either. I only saw the third period and OT tonight, and he was pretty good in that period, but I'm willing to bet he, along with the rest of the team, wasn't great before his demotion. IMO, he earned the demotion, and if he plays like he did in the third period, he'll earn a promotion. I don't think that's a problem at all.

And as Dr. Jan said, shaking up the lines when you need to kick-start the offense is fine. I'd actually go further and say it's necessary. If my coach wasn't doing something to help the team, I'd worry.

I don't think the line shake up had anything to do with one player getting rewarded or not. The whole team played really really dysfunctional hockey through two periods. Hynes wanted a spark and he got it by completely switching around everything.

What is irritating though is that whenever he does that Rossi will be on his way down the lineup. He wasn't particularily bad or worse than say Zuccarello or Mojo or even Ek but still he got put on the third line (where he played well) and he lost his OT spot with Boldy. If you want to look at it in a positive way you could say it is because he is so versatile that he can be put on the third line and make them better. I still very much think though that the organization and by extension the coach do not trust in his ability to help the club. See the takeaways from Russo where he states Hynes wants more consistency out of Rossi. He gets scrutinized way harder than a veteran player even though he shows clear improvement in only his second year in the league. Anyhow Rossi or his handling tonight was not the reason the Wild lost this game. They just never got their legs going till it was way too late.

Maybe that OT goal was a little Karma for Lapanta and Carter gushing over how the Wild find ways to win even when they aren ot at their best...while it was still 1-1 and Chicago almost scored the second goal. This exemplified the overconfidence pretty well and maybe the team came into this game feeling like that a bit as well and they paied the prize for it.

So let me get this straight...

Evasion, bad because he was too rigid with his lines and didn't shake things up in game

Hyne, bad because he shook things up late in a close game, got a goal due to his shake up, but it still wasn't the shake up people wanted

OKAY

I am not sure anybody wrote that, but of course it makes for a nice tagline. So good job on missing the point people were trying to make. Please read the posts again.

Nobody complained about the shakeup but about the message that was sent (or was perceived to be sent) by said shakeup. And the baffling perceived (slight) punishment of always the same guys while mostly sparing others. Even in other places (Athletic, reddit...) this bafflement is replicated so it's not just here on this board by fans of for example Rossi (yes that's me - never said otherwise).

Hynes even said as much if you have The Athletic.

Shaking up lines is fine when you're goalless into the 3rd period.
Who said it isn't? It's normal when they struggle, even though a line with the three best wingers was special, but it paid off.

I'm talking about Rossi, he was moved down the lineup against Anaheim too, when the Wild had a healthy lead. Rossi should be established as 1C by now, he's done well this season with Kap and Zucc. But Hynes obviously doesn't think so, who knows why.

No point in blaming one individual. Almost the entire team stunk. Those two penalties early on seemed to put the team on it's heels. I didn't get the call on JEE... is he supposed to jump out of the way of opposing players?

I think they'd be better served by demoting Johansson than Rossi, but I don't think Rossi was wholly undeserving, even if others were even more deserving. In any case, I agree that it wasn't necessarily punitive.

Fully agree on Lapanta and Carter. It's on par with them claiming a shutout when there are 5 minutes remaining.
