I appreciate you're detailed write up, I read every word. And don't necessarily disagree with any of it.Good two points, four out of a back to back is always nice as well. Some things to clean up, but good effort and control for large chunks, especially early.
Defense was very bend not break and Gus was feeling it tonight, good recovery from a less excellent prior start. Nice to see him rebound and bail the team out in the 2nd period and on the PK when they needed him.
Kap just gets better and better the later the game goes, what a horse. Boldy has been great and dancing around defenders on a routine basis, love the confidence and control to his game at both ends of the ice.
Clean breakouts are this team's typical calling card; this game was very below standards from that standpoint, but I do think the adjustments in the third helped and we were very good on PK clears to balance that out.
Brodin, Faber, Middleton have been standouts on the back-end for me, while Spurgeon has been acceptable/improving. The D overall has been fantastic.
Carry this forward into the Chicago game and really pile on the points for this next stretch!
This was more about recent trends in the player's individual games, not necessarily this single game, Middleton has had quite a few good ones in a row lately and worthy of a call-out, I have dinged him in the past as not an ideal top 4 guy, but he has looked the part so far.I appreciate you're detailed write up, I read every word. But analyzing a B2B where they took a 3 goal lead early seems like a fools errand. They got a big lead early and tried to coast, when they got push back they re engaged. You cant take much more than that.
Unless I math wrong, the Wild currently have 4 PPG forwards... I'm reasonably confident we've never seen something like that after game 2 to 4.
You're absolutely right. That being said I'd rather win a game, play bad and end up with 1g & 1a than lose a game, play good but end up with 0g & 0a.What a strange game. Dominanting the start and the end of the game with a lot of very sloppy hockey in between. Another very strong game from Gus which is a real positive for the Wild. He can carry them very far if he keeps up this confident and steady play.
Rossi had a really bad game culminating with the switch up of Hynes sticking him on the 4 to line at the end of the second, deservedly so. Bad giveaways and timid on the puck. To end that game with a goal and an assist and 6 shots on goal would make you think he did well. But that’s a game he will have to think about a bit on how to not fall into old habits again. He needs to be better if he wants to keep that spot on the first line.
Edit: I love how Austrian Sport sites are praising Rossi‘s „magnificent game“. That’s an example of stat watching right there!
As a huge Rossi fan, I have two words for you, buddy: I agree. I felt like he looked like a 2nd-3rd liner who was getting points because others were executing. I've seen him play much better than this, and I hope he gets back to it. On the plus side, he was still skating well and getting back to help relieve pressure for the defense. What a strange game. Throw in Ohgren and Milne/Bankier to replace Trenin and the formula starts to get overcrowded with talent.Hard to overstate how much fun this team will be to watch if Yurov & Buium are who we think they are and can replace Mojo & Chisholm
