I really don't see why Calle Rosen wasn't used instead...
Because his job, size, and skill set is the opposite of Scandella's and we need a guy to absorb a decent amount of Scandella's duties.

Torey Krug doesn't kill penalties. Calle Rosen doesn't kill penalties. Lick Leddy barely kills penalties. Scandella is our top penalty killer. Swapping in Rosen for him would mean that we have 3 D men that can comfortably kill penalties (Parayko, Faulk, Bortz), a 4th who generally only does it in a pinch (Leddy) and two more guys who just don't do it at all. That means your 2nd unit is already shaky and a penalty/injury to any of Parayko/Faulk/Bortz leaves you absolutely decimated for the kill. Mikkola's 78 minutes on the PK this year is about 30 minutes more than Leddy's total PK time in the last 2 seasons (131 games played).

Torey Krug is 5'9", Leddy and Faulk are 6'0" and Rosen is 6'1". Scandella is 6'3" and Mikkola is 6'4". We're already a small D group and replacing one of our 3 bigger guys with a smallish guy is far from ideal.

Perunovich actually skated with the team today for the first time since his wrist surgery. Apparently he's been skating but usually by himself after practice.

I wonder if that means there's a chance we see him if we make it into the second or third round. That'd in theory open up a lot more options for third pairing, if he's actually ready. But maybe there's little chance of seeing him in a lineup with Leddy and Krug regardless.

I'm excited! Hopefully Scandella can get so to go soon, I hope Mikkola can step in and seize the role, I'm a little surprised that Rosen didn't get the nod given how he has looked over the season. But Mikkola is another big body to put in for what should be a physical series.

Stealing one of these first two games in Minnesota will be a huge key to this series given how dominant Minnesota has been at home. It would be really nice to jump ahead in the series tonight and put some extra doubt in the minds of the Wild with a lot of questions to answer at home going into game 2. But should the Wild win tonight, I won't be concerned about the Blues chances in the series.

Let's Go Blues!

Rosen is a much better option to play next to Bortuzzo on the third pair IMO. I hope Mikkola plays well but I could see that pairing struggling to exit their own zone and taking a bad penalty or two.

I can't see it, he hasn't played in months and wasn't even very good when he did play. I think we'd have to be pretty desperate to put a guy like him in there - especially since Rosen has surprised - but at the very least, it's nice that we're 9-10 D deep in case something does happen.

I am expecting to see some lineup changes fairly often - as we have 3 extra forwards that should get some games in as well. They're deserving of it.

Have you seen enough of Perunovich to be comfortable slotting him into an NHL playoff game? I sure would not find that a desirable alternative.

I'm a fan of it. If he pulls a Marchand, I think it greatly increases our chances of winning this series.

I'm rooting for ugly tonight.
Not sure, but when I clicked on the results, it didn't make sense. Maybe the poll allows members to vote for multiple players. dunno

Gonna stay away from there cuz they tawkin' scheit bout us.
