Rated only #3NA goalie bt central Scouting at mid-term --but I note he got his 5th shutout in just 18GP last night in EDM OILKINGS 7-0 shellacking of Mosse Jaw --true EDM is the top team in their conference and 3rd overall in the WHL --and true he only faced 13 shots last night and only faced an average of 24.22 shots per game--so he doesn't face barrages of shots--but still 5 shutouts in just 18Gp plus a measley 1.60 GAa and a .936 save% is nothing to sneeze at especially compared to
starter vet Laurent Brossoit's (32GP ) 2.24 GAA .920 save% and only 2 shutouts for the same good team ...ADD to this that JARRY gave up NADA on 16 shots fired at him in the Top Prospects Game playing the 2nd half of the game for losing Team Cherry --where vaunted starter Zachary Fucale the CSS #1 rated NA goalie once again proved he just cannot stop pucks giving up 3 goals on the 20 shots he faced --yes FUCALE has a decent GAA for the best team in the Q--halifax (2.49GAA) but his save% is only .896 so he's hardly improved over last year's .892 for Halifax despite the team improving lots whereas JARRY has improved his save% a lot over lst year's .894....
He still got rated #3NA goalie --but now with #2 rated NA goalie Eric Comrie out for the season with a hip injury-I expect JARRY could leap to #1 goalie taken in the draft and a legit 1st rounder if he keeps this kind of stellar goalrending up ...AT the Top Prospects Game ,I liked JARRY's hybrid style and the attitude of confidence he ooozed--there is something "it" about him --maybe special like Brodeur --and the t.v. comentators said he also is a very good puck handling goalie...I think you gotta consider him in that first round mix now and maybe going as early as somwhere in the teens ..the only caveat is that as the EDM back-up he has not been tested on a "workload" that the starter gets ---a heavier "grind" of games playedwould test his mental stamina more-still he exudes a lot of confience i have not seem in most Jr. goalies.I think he might have that very special quality --being both good and confidently knowing it without any doubts ...my hunch pick to click guy...

Anyway -if NHL teams want to be stupid and let him slide or choose Fucale and or Comrie ahead of him --well my Blackhawks could use a stud goalie in the pipeline and if the Blackhawks pick near the end of round one this season instead of in the high teens , I hope STAN BOWMAN would be smart enough to grab him before he mistakes on some other position -because I don't think Stan can keep kicking the lack of elite goaltending issue (currently and in the pipeline) down the road--Again--time he addressed it...I 'd recommend Stan tell his scouting staff to be radaring this kid for targeting at the draft -if he still is on the board..

(OF course the other option could be #1 rated eurogoalie Jusse Saros --but we'll see how he plays for Finland at the U-18's this spring) -his drawback is that at 5'10 181
he is not got the size NHL scouts now want -but his history on save % at various levels of Jr. in Finland has been very good -buthe'llneed to show a lot under the prssure cooker of the World U-18's )..JARRY at 6'2 and about the same weight may get a big ratings edge overall just from that size factor)..

Maybe my hunch is wrong--but JARRY keeps on keeping pucks out -and that will keep on impressing teams that might target a goalie with their first rounder this draft.

1st round? No, probably not.

But, the injury to Comrie will definitely help him climb up the rankings a bit and I see him being a 3rd round guy or so.

The only way Jarry gets drafted ahead of Fucale is if Fucale is hit by a bus before the draft...........twice.

Fucale is the number 1 on the best team the in the chl. Jarry is a backup goalie. ( granted he would be a starter on most teams but fact is he isnt)

Fucale played like 75 games last year all levels and events combined as a 16 year old....... was Jarry even in the league.

If the Oil Kings lose two games in a row in any series in the playoffs, they won't be scared to ride Jarry for the rest of the way if he gets hot, he's that good to supplant Brossoit. If Fucale was on the Oil Kings I'm pretty sure he would be in the exact same position as Jarry. A 33-18 game split isn't exactly bad when you're playing behind the reigning WHL playoff MVP.....

Jarry's been on the radar for a long time too. Sure he hasn't been a workhorse like Fucale, but to sluff the guy off like you are is a bit of a joke.

Jarry played in 14 games last year for Edmonton as a 16 year old, posting an 8-2-1-0 record with a 2.93GAA and .896 sv%. He also played for Team Pacific at Under-17's last year.

I'm not saying anyone will supplant Fucale as the top pick, but Jarry is a solid goaltending prospect.

I see him as being the first goalie selected after the Big 3 of Fucale, Comrie and Martin. Probably an early 3rd round selection

I could see him being picked before Comrie now that he's having hip surgery and missing the rest of the year. Not saying it will happen, but I wouldn't be shocked.

I wasn't aware of the severity of Comrie's injury. I could definitely see Jarry passing him in that case, should Jarry continue to be dominant in a small sample size

Really? Ahead of Fucale? I have really liked what I have seen from Jarry this year. I think he is going to be a big reason why Edmonton won't be at the bottom of the WHL next year.

Edmonton will be a playoff team next year, and not just because of Jarry. He is quite good though, and you can tell who here in this thread has a good handle on his game and who is blowing smoke out their rears.

He's a good goaler, but I prefer a few over him like Fucale, Comrie, Guindon, Desrosiers, Saros, and maybe Burke.

Really Burke? He looked mediocre to me the few times I watched him. Could be off games, but still.

That comment was made a few months ago. No though I think Jarry is the best available goaler after Fucale and Comrie. I agree with Burke, he has been pretty average in the 2nd half of the season.

I still like Burke, and you have to know NHL teams will like him based off his size and bloodlines alone. I bet he ends up as a 4th or 5th round pick.

Austin Lotz is also a guy that should be picked in that same range as Burke.

Oh I agree that Burke will still be draft, but I wouldn't personally touch him until the 6th to 7th round. I also agree that Lotz has seriously been the most underrated goaler from the dub this season. I could see a team with a strong dub connection like Flames, Oilers, others select him in the 3rd round.

He won't last past the 2nd round. Too good and too many teams like him. He is as solid a goalie as I have seen out of the west in awhile. Underrated for sure.

G Tristan Jarry - Edmonton Oil Kings, Whl (2013, 44th overall, Pittsburgh)

Do you guys have a scouting report, opinions or anything else on him? Also will the team be weaker or stronger this year?

The Oil Kings are losing quite a few players and aren't expected to nearly as good next year but Jarry will definitely be the starter. IMO Pittsburgh got a steal. Scouts weren't able to get much of an opinion on him backing up Brossoit but he's a very good prospect.

I would think (assuming they don't stick to their NHL rosters) having Lazar, Reinhart, Samuelsson and Jarry will give the Oil Kings a strong core.

Sort of Ironic the Penguins drafted Jarry because most of his scouting reports sound like he has a similar style to MAF(and I mean that in a positive way). I was hoping(but not expecting) he would fall to the Islanders 3rd round pick. I sort of figured at worst he would be picked late 2nd

From what i have read Jarry does everything good but the only real issue is wether he can continue his play over a larger load. He could also fix his rebounds a bit. Is this true?

is Tristan Jarry that bad?

I was checking up on some of my prospects. Tristan Jarry has had a god awful stat line so far this season through 7 games... 3.59 GAA, .857 SP. Compared to 27GP 1.61 GAA .936SP last season. I cant watch many Candian Juniors games, so I was wondering from someone that follows it more closely why the dramatic jump from last season... Is it the team in front of him, the fact that hes now "THE MAN" with Brissoit gone, or is it those horrendous new jerseys. Any one who follows the Oil Kings please feel free to chime in and help me out.

He is a solid goalie, but he also had the luxury of playing behind one of the best teams in junior last year. He will come around, the Oil Kings are trying to find their identity after losing so many good players. I wouldn't sound the alarm just yet. With that said, he needs to steal a game for them.
