More like the Redwings 1989 draft where they drafted elite Redwings players like Nicklas Lidstrom, Sergei Fedorov and Vladimir Konstantinov as well as successful NHL pros like Dallas Drake, Mike Sillinger and Bob Boughner who ended up playing mostly for other teams.

The 2023 draft already has 3 promising teenagers in Nate Danielson, Axel Pelikka and Trey Augustine who look like elite players so far. Even their 7th round pick Finnie already signed a contract and has been assigned to Grand Rapids.

I mean 2017 is way more recent and I figured comparing them to guys who aren't quite surefire hall of famers yet was probably a better option than comparing them to current HHoFers to include a generational defenseman and one of the greatest defensive forwards of all time...

... Even Dallas' draft is a huge stretch. I more meant it could be a franchise changing draft, like it was for Dallas.

If Detroit is still in the playoff picture in the spring, any chance he jumps right to the Red Wings once the college season ends?

Levi did, although he was basically a year and a half older at the time.
Sorry, I thought he meant become the starter heading into the playoffs and run with that full time. Yes he could probably play a game or 2. But Detroit has decent goaltending in talbot/Lyon and even Cossa, so the only reason augustine gets any games is as an incentive to sign.

No, if any goalie is getting some games this year it will be Cossa. Augustine would likely have a better chance if they're not in the playoff picture honestly
