This is a potential legendary year for the WHL and what makes this league so good is that there is also a fantastic crop of goalers eligible for this draft. Soegaard, Maier, Miner, Gauthier, and Wolf are all goalers who should be drafted and have decent talent.

This time I want to focus on Miner who is going a bit unnoticed and not sure that's fair. He has okay/decent size and is really one of those jack-of-all-trade goalers who has above-average skill in all categories while possessing nothing elite. That might sound bad, but in terms of goaltending it isn't because he isn't as raw as someone like Soegaard. Not only that, but there are some traits I quite like in his game such as his intelligence to read the play while it's transpiring/developing. That and his ability to make big time saves are two of the most important strengths you want a goaler to have. Again, I am not saying he's elite in those areas either, but he has really impressed me this season and he's a darkhorse for me since everyone talks about Soegaard and Maier instead. Personally speaking, I think this lad is better than both of them. If I was going to make a comparison, he reminds me of Thomas Greiss and I think that might also be accurate for his potential as well.

At the end of his original 2-year-deal with the Avalanche. Eagles are in the Western Conference finals in the AHL playoffs and Miner has a .940 save percentage.

Does he take the next step to the NHL next year or is this the peak of his potential?

He has been full time with the organization for 5 seasons, going into year 2 of his 3rd contract. Unfortunately, Miner is a great example of a goalie who would have benefitted from NCAA - had he been able to take 3-4 years to develop there, he would just be finishing his first contract. At the same age, he would be considered a prospect as opposed to a has been. His role is likely to be as a mentor to Nabokov, then he likely moves to Europe for a few seasons.

They can't. Blackwood and Wedgewood are both signed next year. Until that log/wood-jam clears up, Miner is just an injury fill-in #3 guy. While Nabokov learns the ropes. (And Posch, Novosyolov lurk in the background).

Exactly. So he will play out his contract that has a nice AHL salary, and then likely move on.
