That's a big if with 5 years left on his deal. I think the contract really kills any deal.
It really depends on what the NJ pro scouts think about his game. First half of 21-22 he was the team's best player. 2nd half not so much but the entire team collapsed. Five years of the 1st half Gibson would be a good deal for NJ. But since I have no idea how the NJ scouts might value him I don't have anything else to add. I've said what I came to say :)

Yeah probably. Too bad though.
Yes . Plus even if he was available , I don’t think it’s the right timing . Devils have a massive need for stability in net . Yes Knight has tons of potential but Devils need a reliable starter . I just don’t think Knight is quite ready for that . Plus the Devils shaky defensive structure probably wouldn’t be an ideal place to develop a young goalie .

This times a million.

They’re the youngest team in the league and they’ve been burned (badly) by bad goaltending luck the last couple years.

The mentions of Knight, Askarov and Wallstedt in here... I don’t see the upside in trading a boatload for an unknown quantity, regardless of how promising the prospect is. This team needs stability in goal. You have to go and get a reliable, established starter.

Samsonov is the guy who stays in DC most likely but Vanecek could be available. We’ll take Siegenthaler back in return.
Seigenthaler is pretty well much viewed as valuable as Mercer . Our only good defensive Dman . We need more like him not less .
I can see a Talbot trade before a ? like Vanecek . But Vanecek is a decent option along with Talbot and maybe Reimer .
Very less likely deals for maybe Gibson or maybe the Devils go crazy and offer a ton for Hellebuyck and hope the Jets do a major re-tool if Scheifele is traded and Wheeler is moved . Highly doubtful but would love to see it happen .

NJ isn't interested in lottery tickets or reclamation projects. They need a legitimate long term starting goalie. If that requires paying a high price then so be it.

They have tried to get by with older veterans and bargain bin guys and it has blown up in their face every time. If you keep buying cheap then you're going to get cheap play.

Bob's contract will be over before Knight can reach free agency so I'm not convince the Panthers will trade him.
I agree, Bob would be moved for cap reasons alone before FLA entertains moving Knight.

Knight is 100% staying with the Panthers this next year, as he is cheap and will provide good insurance for Bob. However, after next year, if Huberdeau resigns with the Panthers and Knight increases his value, I could see them moving him. You can't afford to spend 14+M on goalies during a limited Cup window and Bob is immovable. They will get a hefty haul for him if they decide to put him on the market. Best case scenario for them is that Bob vastly outplays him so that his next bridge deal stays cheap.

They need to make a call at Nashville. They got Saros and Askarov, in long term they will need to trade one or lose one via free agency.

Gibson might be an interesting target for NJ. I don't think the price would be outrageous and he could be a huge addition if he regains his focus. The talent is there. Blackwood would have to be going back to Anaheim along with some futures pieces.
If Gibson was the target, it'd be wise for NJD to trade down and and big asset back with the lesser pick, then use that pick to trade for Gibson with Blackwood, because the best piece they have to give up is way too much for Gibson in the 2nd overall. To come out of holding the 2nd overall with a good piece and Gibson would be pretty big.

I would think it would be something around Holtz, a 2nd, and Blackwood.

So a deep Fla run this year.
then next yr we are decent, maybe just make POs and pkg '23 1st (top 2/3 protected) loads of adds of picks and ELCs for Knight
