Now that the Devils have the 2OA in this years draft, I don’t think that gets moved for a G, unless the Devils move down in the draft while acquiring a Goalie in the same trade.

For this threads sake, let’s assume the Devils keep the 2 OA. Here’s the list of what I believe would be assets that can be used to acquire a goalie in a trade:

2022 Second Round Pick (37 OA)
2023 1st Round Pick (Top 2 Protected)
Ty Smith
Pavel Zacha (RFA)
Michael McLeod
Andreas Johnsson
Tomas Tatar
Nolan Foote
Shakir Mukahmadullin

Don’t really have specific trade ideas, but I figured I’d start the conversation.

They'll try to sign Campbell or Kuemper before making any kind of trade to get a goalie, I'd imagine if they're going trade they'll look at Driedger or Samsonov

So far some probable routes the Devils look at to get a goalie.
Look at the UFA’s ( Keumper Husso ) or possibly Reimer .
My dream is Hellebuyck some how if the Jets go insane ”retool” mode.
However that is about equally as possible as me getting a date with the smoke show that was sitting behind the bench of the Stars playoff game in Dallas vs the Flames here recently. Plus it would cost more than we should be paying for a goalie.

Blackwood and Bernier both played pretty well before their injuries. I don’t know what the future holds for Blackwood in NJ but if he’s staying next season I don’t think we need to break the bank on a 3rd goaltender. It’s really just for injury insurance.

If they plan on trading Blackwood we’ll need a new starter though. And possibly still a 3rd goalie.

Devs' fans in a rush to trade Smith or Mukhamadullin doesn't make sense to me;
along w Luke they could be D Corps that comes of age behind Nico, Jack, Mercer, '22 2OA, etc

shouldn't have to 'over'pay for a G
(but Dev's do have history: Horvat for Schneider on Draft Day)

these guys are UFA G's 30 or younger, plus there's all the older or signed guys

I think the Devils are not counting on Bernier returning at all. It would be foolish to do so. They cannot be caught again next year like they did this past season having to rely on ECHL goalies. They will get a 1A/B type starter. I can not see them relying on getting a #3. Bernier is not sure when he will be abck plus who knows if he even will be back . Plus not sure how good he will be if he does come back. Too many unknowns . No way they just get a #3

Schneider for 9 wasn't an overpay. I also think we'd be better off moving on from Muk know if his value is actually high rather than waiting for him to make the league and tank his value by showing that he sucks.

I don't think that most fans are looking at Mook. Smith for sure. Even if you chalk up this year to just a really awful season, there should certainly be legit concern that this team will never fully unlock his actual talents given he'll never QB a power play long term.

I was thinking that the Kraken may look at moving Driedger too because they are all in with Grubauer and might want to give Daccord a chance next season.

At the same time, Driedger was our best goalie this season on defensively poor team. Not sure if Francis would feel ultra comfortable moving on from Driedger.

Would love to somehow pry Spencer Knight out of Florida.

Who would Florida want from the Devils?

Iol, I mean what do you think they'd ask for? They aren't going to give him up for scraps.

Think a combination of the #2 pick, Holtz, L Hughes, Bratt. Mercer etc.... High end pieces, not Ty Smith, Zacha etc.

Florida has zero reason to move him and NJ more than likely isn't giving those pieces up either outside of maybe Holtz

Would be interested to see what the Devils would have to trade for one of Knight, Askarov or Wallstedt.

He may become available simply because they seemingly overpaid for Grubauer and it'd be a lot harder to get out from him contract than Driedger

I do however think NJ would have to pay a premium for him (nothing too crazy, but not a 4th) simply because he'd be fairly sought after

Is Daccord waiver exempt or would they have to try and get him through waivers next season?

So trade our first round D man before he plays one single game in North America because he might suck …. What ?! Come on fellas .

Sounds like we got ourselves a Smith, Keith, Barrie and Kassian with slight retention to NJD! SOLD!!!
Puljujarvi is what I’d want from the Oilers . Nothing else . Not saying they don’t have a lot of very good players , just that Poolparty is the guy that wouldn’t cost the works and fills a need and might even remotely available

If he actually has value then yes.

This is what I’d do as GM of New Jersey:

Draft Slafkovsky
Trade for Chychrun (offer Smith and Mukahmadullin)
Sign free agent Ondrej Palat to bring a guy into the room that can tell the kids how to win
Chase Campbell or Kuemper in free agency

As a fan of another Metro team, I fear the Devils will be scary good for many years to come.
