Any info on this kid? Currently 15 and having a .900+ SV% in the Finnish U20, completely dominated the U16's and U18's and held his own in the U20 it seems. Has also been a top Goalie in the Finnish Hockey camps from what I read. Kiviharju is potentially the top pick in 24 so I wonder if Rimpinen is potentially another stud for Finland in 24'.

Hopefully anyone with knowledge of Finnish Hockey can give a good scouting report on him.

Watched some video on him with help with some friends on discord.

Immediate positives are that he has really good situational awareness, always able to follow the game.

Good positioning, really versatile in his save repertoire, able to be comfortable in reacting to different shots the right way.

Likes to follow the puck, again goes to his awareness, is willing to hang on with his stick to the puck for safety, and is very cautious in play.

Negatives :

Very jumpy and overactive, definitely tries too hard a bit to be everywhere, and often goes too far out in net to play, kind of like Askarov but where Askarov likes to play the ends of the net Rimpinen likes to go towards the blue line if necessary.

A little weak, only 160 but he's 15, he will eventually have to bulk up but he does need strength to make it to the next level.

Tomorrow Kiekko-Espoo has an outdoor game in Joensuu.

Curious about him as compared to Louhivaara at this stage in their respective careers.

Selected for Finland's U18 team but was not selected in the NHL Draft. Louhivaara was selected by the Devils but did not play for Team Finland.

Don't think either was selected for the Summer Showcase in Plymouth later this month.

Reminds a bit situation of Ilya Nabokov, whom got drafted at #38 this year's draft as an overager.

Rimpinen could be even late first rounder if he has great rest of season including World Juniors and Liiga season. Probably a second rounder though.

He's a bit undersized for sure for an NHL goalie but he's really not tiny at this point. He was awesome yesterday and he's arguably the best goalie in Liiga at age 18 guiding a newly promoted club to 4th in the table.

It's not like he came out of nowhere...he's been ahead of the curve and on national teams since he was like 14 or 15. It boggles the mind when teams like my Avs (and many other teams....welll, all of them last draft) consistently take shots at 6-5 goalers from Russia playing in the NMHL or mediocre USHL goalies ahead of a kid like this.

I think he would’ve gotten drafted if he played well internationally for Finland last year. Small and bad international performances? Tough combo, even if he was good for his club team.

I really like this goalie so far. Impressed and surprised actually. He goes down quickly and is very agile and fast. Sometimes he's almost a bit too far down but I see some real potential in him.
After Saros the second best games I've seen from a Finnish goalie together with UPL. Both of them now NHL'ers and starters.

Very calm presence and he didn't give up rebounds against Germany. Those are things you like to see from a young goalie.

Please FLYERS, draft this guy. Absolute gem and steal in say, the third or fourth round. He's even worth a second round pick for me.

McKenna or Hagens, Michkov and Rimpinen and the franchise can bounce back sooner than later.

In the U18 Worlds, his weaker game was against the USA, where he revealed suffering from severe dehydration from the second period onwards.

Absolutely epic WJC by this guy…definitely one of those tournament performances that will be remembered for a while.

If Saros can be an NHL star, I wouldn’t shut the door on Rimpinen just because he’s 6-0 and not 6-4. You can say “one tournament” but he’s among the top starters in Liiga at 18.

The question at this point shouldn’t be “does he get drafted”, it should be can he be among the first goalies off the board in a draft that seems loaded with some pretty high end goalie talents.
