Devils fan here. Not too good at goalie scouting, but I've heard a lot of good things about him. I should be excited, right.

Joins former Quinnipiac goalie Michael Garteig; coming off his best pro season last year in Finland after playing three minor league seasons (mostly in the ECHL).

It will be interesting to see how much action Daws gets.

Nico Daws will be making his first career start tonight for the New Jersey Devils!

Both our 1a and 1b goalies are out right now with injuries, so we have resorted to Scott Wedgewood and Nico Daws as our tandem for the time being. Wedgewood got the nod on Thursday and didn't look all that great. Daws looked really good in the one and only preseason game he played and in his first game of the season for Utica. Super excited to see how he looks tonight against Buffalo. Crazy to think that this kid was drafted just 12 months ago and now will be starting in net for an NHL team. I can't imagine the emotions this kid is feeling right now. Hoping for all the best tonight for him!

You love to see it! Best of luck to him tonight.

I understand rushing kids to the NHL, especially when it comes to goalies, isn't all that smart but he should definitely be #1 as long as both Blackwood and Bernier are out. It's a great motivational boost for him and Wedgewood is just... bad.

He played very well to get the win . Has a good structured quiet style . Held the Devils in the game until they decided to start playing in the 3rd.

Agree . Wedgewood is just not that good . Good to see we have what looks to be a very good young goalie in the wings.
Utica Comets won the same day and other Devils young goalie stood on his head too. Very encouraging

Didn't catch the game live, but Daws looked solid in the highlights I saw. Looked big and calm in net and made some nice positional saves...hard to argue with a .960 SV% and 1 GA!

Fantastic debut, but he likely would benefit from more seasoning in the AHL. There were some technical issues my relatively untrained eyes picked up in his game (couple juicy rebounds, over sliding a bit at times, not staying fully square, etc). I worry a bit that if he stays up for an extended period then other teams will get more tape on him and start to pick apart the less refined aspects of his game. Who knows tho, maybe working with the devils goalie coach over a shorter stint while Blackwood/Bernier work their way back will be just what he needs for development in the long run.

Well hopefully either one of Blackwood or Bernier comes back soon so we can send him down. But yeah this kid looked so calm for such a young goalie. You would think after letting up a goal pretty fast his confidence would get rattled but nope it didn't even phase him which is great.

Guy has barley any pro experience and played awesome in his first game for us. Made some big stops to keep it a 1 goal game. Once our goalies come back he will be back in Utica continuing to develop. I'm sure he didnt want to over commit to shots and played a little deeper in the crease than most goalies. Whatever way he gets it done in the future as long as he is a good puck stopper that's all that matters. Really happy we got him with the 3rd round pick we sent to the Hurricanes for a few games of Sami Vatanen.

He is half German, was born in Germany (Munich).

Great 1st game in the NHL
Not so good 2nd?.

He has been total lights out in the AHL (Utica)
5-0-0 record
.940 sv%
has faced 33 shots per game
1.99 gaa

Wasn't really his fault that 2nd game. Team left him out to dry. Was a total no show.

He has been excellent for Utica so far.

Helped Utica set an AHL record going 12-0-0 to start their season. So far he is 7-0-0 with a .938 Save % and a 2.00 GAA. Hasn't given up more than 3 goals in a game. Won his NHL debut only giving up 1 goal back in October after only playing like 2 AHL games. Aside from the Devils getting beat badly and him getting pulled in his 2nd NHL start he has been fantastic. Cant really fault him for that Flames game. Really wanted the Devils to take a goalie with the 3rd round pick we got in the trade from Carolona for Sami Vatanen. They did just that by taking Daws and it's looking great so far.

He is no Akira Schmid, who is 5-0-0 with a .951 Save % and a 1.38 GAA ;)

Good to see Nico back from injury. Kind of forgotten with Akira Schmid's run last year but it was Dawes that was the top rated goalie by Central Scouting in his draft year.
Top rated North American goalie.

Glad he is back ans has a good season debut. Hopefully he gets alot of starts for Utica because they have a logjam in goal with Kallgren there.
