He was incredible for Russia at Junior A challenge. I would rank him as the top Euro goalie right now. Wish I could catch a few more of his games this year, but his reflexes are top notch. He is patient in the net, and he doesn't open up when he gets back to his feet. I have really started to key in on some goalies recently with my scouting.

My top 10 for this draft at this time:

1. Carter Hart - Everett Silvertips
2. Mikhail Berdin - Russia U18
3. Jack LaFontaine - Janesville Jets
4. Evan Cormier - Saginaw Spirit
5. Filip Gustavsson - Lulea HF
6. Zach Sawchenko - Moose Jaw Warriors
7. Niilo Halonen - Jokerit Jr.
8. Evan Fitzpatrick - Sherbrooke Phoenix
9. Matt Ladd - Avon Old Farms
10. Tyler Parsons - London Knights

I have a good feeling about the top 6 on that list becoming NHL goaltenders. I think the top 4 have qualities that give them a good chance of being starting goalies in the league.

I agree with the above. He is the best european goalie in the draft and only behind Sawchenko and Hart IMO.

His reflexes are what will get him to the NHL

Cormier at number 4? Much rather have goalies such as Sawchenko, Fitzpatrick, Timpano, Samuel over him. Although I would take Cormier before Parsons.

Someone smart will draft him fairly early. Maybe like the time Sorokin was taken in round 3.

Love this pick for the Jets.

Great goalie pipeline... Hellebuyck, Comrie, Berdin...

Sounds like we could have landed a bit of a steal here.

Any word on him and perhaps if he's looking at a move to NA juniors or is a KHL team interested?

Excellent addition to an already rich Jets goalie pipeline. Berdin needs to fill out and get his consistency under control. Being apart of the NT system though is a huge boost for his development.

I think Hockey Canada has basically barred EU goalies from playing in NA junior, can read about that here. So the only options that remain are Russia (which is what Vasilievsky did to start, and what Sorokin and pretty much every other Russian goalie prospect of any importance has done) or to come to NA for the ECHL/AHL circuit due to the lack of any age restriction on Euro players like there is for NA juniors.

I'd sooner see him play in Russia, specifically at the KHL level, but what team owns his rights or how does that get done? Does he get drafted or are members of the new Russia u18s free agents?

Berdin is contracted with Cherepovets Severstal in KHL.

Severstal is awful. I watched them a lot because that was the team Buchnevich played for.

Kagarlitsky is just about the only good player they have left, unless they've made good offseason acquisitions.

I don't know if they've added any goalies, but the goalie from last season was terrible. He lost them so many games. Berdin might be able to benefit from that.

What's with Russia and goalies lately? Damn. Vasilevsky, Sorokin, Shestyorkin, Samsonov, Berdin, etc.

I'd say it's all about the coaching: a lot of Russian goalies from the 90's have stayed in the game as GK coaches + Tretyak was always lobbying and supporting that field.

I actually have a theory.

I think this is happening because about a decade ago Russia wasn't producing any quality goaltenders.

Coaches and parents saw an opportunity to maybe have an easier path. As a result the more athletic kids that would have probably tried out for skater positions tried goaltending.

I think similar might be happening to defense position.
